Our CFCA Kids program is back! Starting on September 11, kids (ages 6-13) will focus on skills, confidence, fun and develop a lifelong love of moving and exercise! Classes will run on Tuesday and Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:15. Online registration coming soon!

Our new season will kick off on September 11 with “Confessions of a Seed Snatcher” presented by Marie Patrice Masse. Marie, an enthusiastic gardener and nature lover, has collected seeds for many years and more often than not can be found tending her 4500 square foot organic flower and vegetable garden at the Stow Community Garden. Her presentation will include a slideshow and lecture. It is a humorous and insightful journey of discovery into the world of seed saving from seed biology and politics, to seed quirkiness and adaptability. Attendees will learn how to save seeds from their gardens and enjoy entertaining stories of finding seeds in unusual places. Following the slideshow/lecture there will be an optional hands – on seed gathering from a large collection of flower heads, seed stalks, and pods. Beautiful photographs and entertaining story-telling promise to make this presentation a delight. Guests are welcome, $5 fee.

Register Today for PMC Kids Ride
It’s time to register your kids for this year’s Cape Ann Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) Kids Ride! Registration fee is $10 through September 22nd ($30 walk-on) with a fundraising minimum of $30, 100% of which will support cancer treatment and research efforts at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI).  Visit www.kids.pmc.org/capeann to sign up online.
This rain or shine event will take place at Masconomo Park in Manchester on Saturday, September 29th from 9am – 12 noon and will offer five different ride routes for kids ages 2-15. Routes range from the perimeter of the park for tykes on tricycles to a 10-mile mountain trail or an 11-mile road ride.

The hard working and talented crew of the Adventure that treated us to a great parade and race day on Sunday.
I am super excited to give my children’s program at the Cape Ann Museum on Saturday morning. The program is free and open to the public. I hope to see you there!
Does anyone by chance have young caterpillars in the garden at this time? All my current, and very mature caterpillars, are about to pupate at any moment. If you had the opportunity to see the schooners docked at Gloucester’s gorgeous new floating dock, located at I4-C2, know that it was constructed by Beacon Marine Basin and installed by Brett Ramsey’s company Ramsey Marine and Dock Construction. The floating dock was created by Gloucester Maritime and the Schooner Festival Committee to provide schooners with a convenient place to moor.

The new dock was well utilized during the three day Schooner Festival event. By late Sunday afternoon, there were a total of five schooners, as well as the Tall Ship Lynx, moored at the floating dock!
The dock will be removed within the next few weeks, to be reinstalled next August for the 35th Annual Gloucester Schooner Festival.

Gloucester Rotary Club Announces Photography Contest
The Gloucester Rotary Club will publish a 12-month Cape Ann photo calendar for 2019 as a fundraiser. All profits will go to the Gloucester Rotary Club’s efforts to raise money that supports the many community and international activities in which the club is involved.
In Order to publish a beautiful calendar, the Club is requesting high quality digital photos that show the unique beauty of Cape Ann throughout the year– landscapes, seascapes, harbor scenes, sunrises/sunsets, boats, wildlife, etc. As we will be featuring one photo per month, we need images from each season: winter, spring, summer and fall. Photographs from Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester will be accepted.
Full contest rules and requirements are available online at http://www.gloucesterrotary.org. All entries must be received by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018.

The Schooner Fest could not have had a better weekend! Â The city was bustling and it seems like everyone was out enjoying these last few days of summer. Â As we all head back to work this week I share my photo dump from my spot on Ten Pd Island…just me, my coffee and the seagulls!
In the middle of all those schooners, we also caught three of the Wicked Tuna boats leaving the harbor. Hot Tuna, Wicked Pissah, and Tuna.com were all headed out.
