DON’T MISS THE DESIGN OF MINE FLOAT TODAY AT THE HORRIBLES!

Design of  Mine float for Gloucester’s Horribles Parade

My friend Melissa is going to be tossing out some lovely gifts to parade goers. If you haven’t been lately, Melissa is carrying several local dress designers, and she still has a few of those wonderful white and red V-neck Fiesta VIVA T-shirts for sale (which btw, were designed by her daughter Bianca!).

Bloopers and Blunders: Greasy Pole Edition

These guys.  All so much fun to watch.  Those winning walkers get lots of press, and rightfully so, but also worth celebrating are some of the Greasy Pole’s unsung heroes. Cheers to those who hit the water with no flag in their hands.

Demonstration July 21st 2pm Pop Up Show July 16 -21st John Caggiano, a long time Cape Ann artist, will demonstrate his skills painting with brushes and palette knives. His oil palette, which has evolved over many years, is large and varied. It contains many colors, most of which are utilized in every painting. He will most likely paint from photos unless it is feasible to move outside on the grounds of the Northshore Arts Association, in which case he will choose a subject from the surrounding area. Questions from the audience will be welcomed. If time permits, he will be happy to critique a painting that you bring with you as long as you are willing to share it with all in attendance. Aside from the Northshore Arts Association, John Caggiano is an elected member of the American Society of Marine Artists, Academic Artists, Hudson Valley Art, Lyme Art and Rockport Art – Associations. Annually he is a juried and invited artist in up to a dozen plein air events around the country including Cape Ann Plein Air. Some recent awards are the Texas Ranchland Award from En Plein Air Texas, the Guerrilla Painters Award from Wayne (PA) Plein Air Festival and Second Place in the Marine Art Exhibition at the Lyme Art Association. John Caggiano’s art may be viewed on Facebook, JohnCaggiano.com or at his gallery on Bearskin Neck in Rockport, Massachusetts founded in 1981.

CIGARISM Small Size Aluminum Alloy Metal Cigar Ashtray Review

Perfect for the deck, it’s heavy and feels premium like it should be at least double the cost.  I also like how deep it is so ash will stay contained unlike a shallow ashtray.

Annisquam then and now | DPW and Greenbelt team up at Lobster Cove new land preserve to solve access at narrow and blind corner on Leonard Street

annisquam village circa 1901

In 2017, donations of $650,000 were secured to preserve four acres of Lobster Cove acquired by Essex County Greenbelt Ed Becker and Dave Rimmer working with the city staff (DPW Mike Hale, Ken Whittaker, Community Development) and many in the community. The property is co-owned by Mt. Adnah Cemetery.

Wilman Trail

Recently DPW teamed up with Greenbelt to scrub out trees, rocks, earth and stone to grade a pedestrian path along its Leonard Street stretch at the landing past Annisquam Church. Widening Leonard Street because of its variable and intermittent scale would be a very expensive and perhaps unwelcome project. This quick jaunt seems like a thoughtful solution to support safe access and property exploration in a tricky spot.

‘Squam rock has some practice boulders

No longer hidden by overgrowth, beautifully balanced granite outcroppings were exposed. If you look just so you might see the lines of a baby shorebird under wing or is that just me? Hmmm… Mother Ann, Squam Rock and baby Bird Rock.
