The Movie “Food Evolution” Tonight at 7:30 PM

Skeptics in the Pub of Gloucester is sponsoring the viewing of Food Evolution tonight at 7:30 PM at Gloucester’s Cape Ann Community Cinema, 21 Main Street.

If you have strong opinions about GMO foods you might find out you are dead wrong. Check it out tonight and arm yourself with actual facts.

From their website:

FOOD EVOLUTION shows how easily misinformation, confusion, and fear can overwhelm objective analysis. How do we ensure that our food supply is safe, and that everyone has enough to eat? How do we feed the world while also protecting the planet? Has genetic engineering increased or decreased pesticide use? Are GMO foods bad for your health? And, most importantly, what data, evidence, and sources are we using to approach these important questions?

Cape Ann Cinema and Stage, 21 Main St, Gloucester, offers beer, wine, and snacks for sale. Doors open at 7 PM, movie at 7:30 PM.

  1. Wait, what? Ya but all those labels that tout “no-gmo” at the organic markets and all those food producers that go out of their way to slap that no- gmo label on there are you saying it’s a sham?

    1. I’m kidding. Yes, the non-GMO butterfly label is a total sham. With that label, you pay more for less. Grapenuts bought the label, raised the price, made the box smaller and had to remove Niacin and other vitamins.

Some people think you buy organic to avoid pesticides. That would be incorrect. Organic pesticides are toxic but because they are less effective the organic farmer has to use much more. Organic tomatoes can be soaked in so much copper sulfate that the runoff from the field has to be treated as poison. Farm workers spreading copper sulfate get pulmonary infections breathing the dust. Who knows what the long-term effects are because organic pesticides are not tested nearly as much as synthetic pesticides.

I could go on. Just watch the movie. It has Neil deGrasse Tyson narrating!
