The Many Names of Yeshua
Yeshua (meaning “Salvation”) is the original Hebrew name of the one English-speaking people call Jesus. Jesus is a transliteration of the Hebrew Yeshua to the Greek spelling Iesous, from which, through the Latin Iesus, comes the English spelling Jesus. The name Jesus did not exist during the time Jesus Christ was on Earth, and did not come into use until it was configured by the Council of Nicea of the Roman Catholic Church in the 4th century.

Quote of the Week – Sheldon Solomon

Sheldon Solomon (c1954-Â Â Â Â )
A native of the Bronx, Solomon was educated at Franklin and Marshall University and the University of Kansas and has taught social psychology at Skidmore College since 1980. He is perhaps best known for his development, with others, of Terror Management Theory which concerns the way we deal with death, and is the co-author of The Worm at the Core: On the Role of Death in Life. He is the co-founder of a downtown Saratoga Springs restaurant, Esperanto, and is a self-described “twitching blob of respiring biological protoplasm no more fundamentally significant or enduring than a lizard or a potato.”

Limonciello & Aranciello Bottling Night @Sista Felicia’s
Friday night friends and family gathered to bottle & sample this years batch of Sista Felicia’s Limonciello and Aranicello for the upcoming Feast of St Joseph!Â

While “Comere” Bridget Mathews and I mixed this year batches, the ladies help strain the rids from the alachol, and  prepared the bottles.
The men snacked on freshly fried Arancini and Hot Italian Bread with fresh Ricotta Cheese, Pesto and Red Roasted Peppers, while they anxiously waited to sample all 4 varieties. Â Each year 2 straight up versions of Limonciello & Aranciello, and 2 creamy versions of both lemon and orange are prepared and bottled.
Neil Mathews, our official taste tester, sampled each, while bridget and I mixed and tweaked the ratios until Neil deemed it to be “Perfecto!”Several rounds of samples were enjoyed by all!Â

Local Artist Bobbi Gibb Featured in Art New England

Her passion may be running yet contemporary artist and sculptor Bobbi Gibb has never run from anything in her life. In fact, her existence is a series of running toward, well, everything, as fast as humanly possible. She began running at age four “and never stopped.” Running wild through the woods as a child to explore nature; running to help spark the women’s movement in 1966 by crashing the Boston Marathon disguised as a man and finishing it (“unofficially” winning it three times before women were permitted to race); running toward a career in medicine and neuroscience research; running to paint, sculpt and study the human body and its limitless capabilities; and running toward a law degree to provide for her son. Bobbi Gibb never ceases running forward and that, one can argue, is how Gibb pursues her art. Hers is a life spent in pursuit of itself, its fullest potential. For Gibb, this drive has manifested itself in an extraordinary academic career in law and medicine; in sculpture, paintings and books; and in that brazen, historic 1966 Boston Marathon run which celebrates its 50th anniversary this spring. All elements of Gibb’s existence deliver the same message: Do. Reach. Live.

Last year, 5,000 samples were served from 62 gallons of Fishermen’s Wive’s redfish soup. Unbelievably, this year’s batch of soup looks like an even greater amount. A tremendous effort on behalf of our community has been extended by Angela Sanfilippo, Sal Di Stefano, Cara Ring, Mark Ring, Natalie Ring, Tom Ring, Mariella Cannavo, Margherida Bellicia, Todd Snopkowski from Snap Chef, Misslewood Executive Chef Sean McCarthy, Jason Hakes, Abde Lhamid Yacine, Ethan Piper, Madi Woods, Patrick Finocchiaro, and everyone involved in the food preparations. Three cheers and a thundering shout out to Mayor Sefatia Romeo Thekan for her vision in bringing Gloucester for the second year in a row to the Seafood Expo North America, and a huge thank you to everyone working so hard to make SENA16 a great success.

Preparations are well underway for tomorrow’s big opening day of the Seafood Expo North America, with fantastic teamwork from Angela Sanfilippo, Sal Di Stefano, Cara Ring, Mark Ring, Natalie Ring, Tom Ring, Mariella Cannavo, Margherida Bellicia, Todd Snopkowski from Snap Chef, Misslewood Executive Chef Sean McCarthy, Jason Hakes, Abde Lhamid Yacine, Ethan Piper, Madi Woods, and Patrick Finocchiaro.
Last year, Gloucester’s booth was quite possibly the most popular in the show as guests enjoyed samples of the fresh homemade Fishermen’s Wives redfish soup prepared and served by Mayor Sefatia, Angela Sanfilippo, and their amazing team. Mark Ring explains the fish is ocean perch, or redfish, which is a deep water species, caught at hundreds of fathoms beneath the sea.

SPRING SAFETY AND SURVIVAL TRAINING
We will be offering two types of trainings this season. Safety and Survival training is a full-day training for commercial fishermen that teaches important skills for preventing and responding to on-board emergencies. Drill Conductor training is a one-day training for those who have completed the Safety and Survival training and want to conduct required monthly drills on their own fishing vessels.
