  1. Like me and our father and grandfathers going back a dozen generations, my older brother loved the sea and Gloucester. He was a Navy diver and when he left the Navy he became a professional commercial diver. He often dove in a suit and helmet like this. He worked out of New Bedford. He was proud that he was one of the first to dive on the wreck of the Andrea Doria. I idolized him. He died in the 1970’s in a deep diving accident. He loved his life and died doing what he loved. He represented his family, Gloucester, and their shared maritime history, very well.

    1. So many people who visit The Diving Locker have such stories and family connections as ggirlforevah. Paul Harling, who runs the Diving Locker, was also one of the divers on the Andrea Dorea, and he loves sharing these kinds of memories about diving with everybody he talks with. I’m so sorry to hear about your brother.
