Great way to get across and beats the swim Like hubby said depends upon weather! Talking with Mom about memory lane and yes I am like a sponge soaking it all up and writing it down 🙂 Dave & Kim 🙂
“Her brother, Lefty McNeil, was a football player and very good swimmer as many are that grow-up on the cape (and yes some can’t swim or scared of water). He was a lifeguard at Winger-sheet beach and he would park his car out on the point by the yacht club swim across to beach and at end of work day swim back to point and where his car was parked.
This is not for everyone because of tides and under current can get pulled out or under. There are ways we were taught to swim along with or allow it to pull for a while don’t panic stay above so you don’t tire.
The family lived in Bayview on Washington Street, next to Paul and Jenna Vacaries store at that time. Mom recalled teen years – they had a juke box in back room and teens would dance and hang out.”
ME While visiting grandmothers next door, when I saw Elsie the cow (Borden’s Ice cream truck) head over for the fresh stuff!” 🙂 Dave

Thanks Donna,
“Yours and hubbies way is much safer and faster, more reliable too.” Think mom said he only did it when weather was good it was in late 30’s or 40’s then she remembers the ration actions during WWII and home gardens, coastguard and Navy very active on coast lines on look out for U-boats, black out drills. Civil defense drills. The fisherman and those who took to the seas were also our Guardians of the high seas very own Capt Joe’s dad knew this first hand along with so many other’s watchful eyes on the homeland!
Imagine swimming across and weather turns on you have to find a way to get back close to the point where here car was…I wish I could find the diary mom kept going across country in the (60’s) seems misplaced 😦 Dave
