As a lifelong very active Y member I would not like to see the Y move from the downtown location. The Y generates loads of community activity for downtown shops and businesses , as we see the downtown becoming more vibrant in recent times it would be a big step back for our community to see it go the way of the Mall Culture. I live on Pleasant Street, less than 2 blocks from the Y and there is always parking space in front of my house, making it more convenient than that seems a bit of a mixed message to folks who want to workout but can’t walk a little way.
There is so much the our downtown Y offers, you can get world class programs, instruction and equipment and also be part of the newer thinking about community which is away from the mall and going urban.
