I remember watching the old cowboys northern NM on Quarter Horses could some would be a sleep and the horse would be like auto pilot with Angus and Herefords, and couple of long horns! I helped round up some from Nation Forest land at 13 then and got branched and scratched up the cattle knew how to take you through the brush, scrub oak – pines, to shake you sore walked bowl legged for a day or too – called me chaffed
Land looked a bit like this in some area others where beautiful valleys with grass and creeks.
