We Don’t Know a Tree

TreeFace4985wmI was walking with a cane with Janet, and saw a face on a tree trunk. Amazing, I thought! Later I realized one could buy these ornaments in most garden stores. But this history goes much deeper. Trees have a special meaning for us, not only in Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings with the Ents (giant trees), but in our current lives. George Washington remorsefully cut down a cherry tree and confessed, there is the memory of a Liberty Tree in Danvers Massachusetts, and when a grand old tree is cut down in your town in violation of local laws, it causes an uproar. Rightly so, because they’re so very important in our lives. In my bedridden time of illness in hospitals, and nursing/rehab homes, window views of trees were of prime importance to me. A tree is life, and encouraged me to carry on. I will never hurt a tree.

  1. I entirely agree. I am a lifelong literal tree hugger. They are sacred to me. I cannot cut one down. In my life I have moved around a lot and always wherever I went, I planted trees. Like Johnny Appleseed, I left a trail of trees across the country. I think of them as like children and often wonder how they look now that they are fully grown. I would like to visit them and sometimes I do. Trees are life. I too will never hurt one.

  2. Nicely said and I remember when they a cut a tree down that was in good shape, not by any electrical wires or lines, by my current residence kitchen window. It really bothered me and other residents of this area. It shaded that small corner of the childrens park and those walking up the street refugee for both human and birds…It has not given up however, from a stump sprouted some new branches and a new tree is forming if they leave it alone. And it too will stand tall once again!

It provided shade in summer, birds would sing in the mornings, and the wind would blow it on windy day – dancing to the wind…a tree with access from all four directions is very special tree indeed! Thanks Fred for inspiring view and wisdom! Dave:-) & Kim:-)
