Drone Video: A Thacher Island Sunrise

Jim writes, “A bird’s eye view of a spectacular sunrise on Thacher Island off the coast of Rockport and Gloucester. The Twin Lights guard mariners from the rocky coast and they also guide them back to safe harbor.” Shot and edited by Jim Capillo.

  1. We were there this August when Bill Lee brought Cape Ann TV out at 4AM with their drone to make this video. It was an awesome sight watching the lights flash on the weird speck in the early morning darkness dart up and down and now it’s fun to see the finished product. You really can’t get any bad pictures on TI though.

For the past twelve years we have been on the island as keepers for at least a month each time and have fallen in love with the area and the people. I found out last year that I have a relative buried in Gloucester whose husband is on the list of fishermen lost at sea and yet another relative that was a keeper on Curtis Light in Maine back in the 1860’s. So, I guess I come by the job somewhat legitimately although at the time we became keepers I had no knowledge of either. It’s been quite an adventure and I’m still trying to figure out why I’ve been mysteriously drawn to this area. Maybe one day I’ll figure it out.

    Stay safe and happy sailing.

  2. It brought me to tears; it is so achingly beautiful, both your film and my beloved island home forever. Thank you for sharing.
