Spicy Italian Sausage Pepper and Onion Bow Tie Pasta
Spicy Italian Sausage Pepper & Onion Bow Tie Pasta
I created this recipe one night while in the middle of making a batch of my homemade sausage. With a kitchen full of hungry family waiting to be fed, and 2 giant bowls of fixed sausage meat waiting to be stuffed into soaking casings, I decided to halt sausage production and feed the family. Using what I had on hand, I threw together this delicious pasta dish in less than 30 minutes and resumed production. Although I may have used my own homemade sausage meat to create this recipe, it can easily be duplicated by using any “Sweet Italian” sausage meat. For those living close to Gloucester, I highly recommend buying Trupiano’s Italian Sausage sold at The Cave on Main Street. The Cave regularly carries Sweet Italian “Trupiano’s Italian Sausage”, and Trupiano’s “Tomato Parsley & Cheese” variety can be specially pre-ordered by calling a few days in advance. •••WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY••• Monday Night February 17th 2014 Cape Ann Weather..
The NWS in Taunton has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for our area from 7am Tuesday to 7pm .. Hazard types heavy snow at times with reduced Visibilities to a half mile or less.. Calling for 3-5″ for Cape Ann with east winds 10-20 mph . Driving conditions expected to get treacherous after 1pm.
Ok that’s from the NWS .. My thoughts really are as follows : First off will have a east or south east wind that’s a warming wind direction that would make for a very wet wet snow ! Very hard to accumulate on roadways with east / south east winds and temps in mid 30’s.. With that being said it’s not impossible but unlikely .. I’m calling for 1-2″ perhaps 3″ worst case scenario . It’s also possible we mix or change to rain … Nothing to panic over / no strong winds or freeze ups .. Minor to very minor event .. West of Cape Ann say Beverly or Salem better chance at the 5″ amounts further away from the marine influence …
After this minor event we warm up into the upper 30’s perhaps 40’s with rains on Friday … Weekend looking good at this time but that could change .. Back to winter next Monday cold returns and train of snow storms as well .. Have a great Monday night ! See ya sum time on Tuesday … Thanks for reading …

Who Wants To Guess How Many Bids The Schooner “Nathaniel Bowditch” Received At Public Auction A Couple Of Days Ago?
From Wikipedia
Nathaniel Bowditch, the fourth of seven children, was born in Salem, Massachusetts, to Habakkuk Bowditch and Mary (Ingersoll) Bowditch. At the age of ten, he was made to leave school to work in his father’s cooperage, before becoming indentured at twelve for nine years as a bookkeepingapprentice to a ship chandler.

ROCKLAND — It’s a sad day when a storied local business ends up in financial trouble and goes on the auction block, but when it’s a schooner that dates back to 1922 and a business that continues to ply the tourist trade off Maine’s Midcoast, there is much reason to mourn.
The schooner Nathaniel Bowditch will beauctioned to the highest bidder Friday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. at Sharp’s Wharf (Bay View Landing) in Camden. The Nathaniel Bowditch, owned by Owen and Cathie Dorr of Rockland, was seized Dec. 23, 2013, at its Rockland Harbor berth in Lermond Cove by U.S. Marshals and towed to Camden Harbor. A civil foreclosure case against the Dorrs has been working its way through the U.S. District Court’s Admiralty Division in the weeks leading up to and following the seizure.
Owen Dorr said Wednesday that while he and his wife don’t have the ability to bail themselves out financially and save the boat, they want to remain in the windjamming trade.

Birds of Cape Ann: The American Robin and Bird Food!
Right on schedule! Beautiful and welcome migrant flocks of American Robins arrive annually in Gloucester during the month of February, dining on local fruits, berries and fish fry.
During the winter months Cape Ann often becomes home to large flocks of robins, and we have had the joy of hosting numerous numbers in our garden. I can’t help but notice their arrival. Their shadows descend, crisscrossing the window light, followed by a wild rumpus in the ‘Dragon Lady’ hollies. This pair of hollies is planted on opposing sides of the garden path, alongside my home office. I have learned to stealthily sneak up to a window, as any sudden activity inside startles birds that are investigating our garden, and they quickly disperse. Dining not only on berries of the ‘Dragon Ladies’, but also the ‘Blue Princess’ Meserve holly and winterberry bushes, I find dozens of noisy, hungry robins.
These winter nomads flock to trees and shrubs that hold their fruit through January and February, feasting on red cedar, American holly, Meserve hollies, chokecherries, crabapples, and juniper. Robins traveling along the shores of Cape Ann also comb the shoreline for mollusks, and go belly-deep for fish fry. Depleting their food supply, they move onto the next location. Gardens rife with fruiting shrubs and trees make an ideal destination for our migrating friends.

Habitat Gardening Tip:
The garden designed to attract nesting pairs of summer resident robins, as well as flocks of winter travelers, would be comprised of trees and shrubs for nest building, plants that bear fruit and berries that are edible during the summer and fall, and plants that bear fruits that persist through the winter months. Suburban gardens and agricultural areas provide the ideal habitat, with open fields and lawns for foraging insects as well as trees and hedgerows in which to build their nests.
The following plants, suggested with robins in mind, will also attract legions of songbirds and Lepidoptera. The list is comprised primarily of indigenous species with a few non-native, but not invasive, plants included.
Trees for nesting ~ American Holly (Ilex opaca), Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana), Red Maple (Acer rubrum), Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum), Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida).
Summer and autumn fruit bearing trees, shrubs and vines for robins ~ Black Cherry (Prunus serotina), Blackberry (Rubus spp.), Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida), Gray Dogwood (C. racemosa), Red-osier Dogwood (C. sericea), Silky Dogwood (C. amomum), Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis), Apple (Malus pumila), Virginia Rose (Rosa virginiana), Highbush Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum), Lowbush Blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium), Wild Grape (Vitis spp.).
Trees and shrubs with fruits persisting through winter ~ Winterberry (Ilex verticillata), Mountain Ash (Sorbus americana), Crabapple (Malus spp.), Sargent’s Crabapple (Malus sargentii), American Holly (Ilex opaca), Meserve Hollies (Ilex x meserveae), Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana), Common Juniper (Juniperus communis), Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana), Smooth Sumac (Rhus glabra), Staghorn Sumac (Rhus typhina).
