Tribeca Film in a partnership with Emerging Pictures will be bringing “Glee” star Chris Colfer’s film debut, the high school comedy Struck By Lightning, to theaters nationwide for a special interactive Q&A screening event on Sunday, January 6th. Cinemas across the country will host the film’s theatrical premiere the same time as its red-carpet launch in Los Angeles. All over the United States, audiences will have a chance to see the film in theaters before its January 11th theatrical release date. Chris will participate remotely from the LA premiere for a live and interactive webcast Q&A at the conclusion of the film. Viewers will have the opportunity to ask questions via Twitter.  A full list of participating theaters can be found athttp://www.tribecafilm.com/struckbylightning

In addition to starring in the movie, Colfer also wrote the screenplay for the film, which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and was met with a standing ovation. Directed with awareness and exuberance by Brian Dannelly (Saved!), the highly anticipated film also stars Allison Janney, Polly Bergen, Rebel Wilson, Christina Hendricks, Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Hyland and Angela Kinsey.

High school senior Carson Phillips (Chris Colfer) was destined for bigger things than his close-minded small town could ever offer. He was on a path to greatness, but destiny had a different plan when he was suddenly killed by a bolt of lightning in his school parking lot.

Demonstrating that life is what happens while you’re busy planning your future, Carson recounts the last few weeks of his life via witty, insightful flashbacks, including a blackmail scheme targeting the popular kids in school that he concocts with his best friend (Rebel Wilson, Bridesmaids), and a home life that includes a mother (Allison Janney, Juno, “The West Wing”) who’s more interested in the bottle than her son’s future and an estranged father (Dermot Mulroney, My Best Friend’s Wedding) who suddenly appears with a pregnant fiancée (Christina Hendricks, “Mad Men”).

Struck By Lightning is a co-production between Permut Presentations and Camellia Entertainment in association with Inphenate and Evil Media Empire.  It is produced by David Permut, Roberto Aguire and Mia Chang. Along with Colfer, the executive producers include Jason Michael Berman, Glenn Rigberg and Lawrence Kopeikin. Co-producers on the project are Monica Aguirre Diez Barroso, Steve Longi, and Mark Moran.

Thursday Night Blues Party to host A Train Quartet ~ What a way to start out the New Year!

a trainDave says,

Let’s break in the new year with a bang. Please welcome the debut of the remnants of “A” Train, that Rockport powerhouse of swing and rhythm. Featuring the father/son pairing of Rik and Alec Razdan, both saxophone swamis and scientific ubermenches. They’ll be dragging along their longtime piano jackhammer, Mr. John Hyde and dedicated drumbler, Mr. David “Doc” Vincent kicking and screaming to the stage to regale you with rhythm and honk, honk, honk. It’ll be like 4000 geese flying thru your head. Be prepared to shake your tootsies as  we jump into the  cesspool of swing without holding our breath. EMTs will be standing by.
And, don’t forget, next  Thu. the10th, we’ll be cerebrating The  80th birthday of that magnificent maestro of surf mayhem: Mr. Johnny Carwash (aka Bob Davis). To beef up the festivities, we’ve added Mr. Dave Brown and Mr. David Mattacks to the fire. This is going to be a first. You might have to change your underwear, so, bring a spare.
But wait! There’s more! Following in the footsteps of aural gore, The17th sees the annual return  of Mr. Gordon “Sax” Beadle Like the winter solstice , we’ll be sacrificing on the altar of the great muddy boot, asking forgiveness and taking no prisoners. Stretchers will bring in First time guitarist, Mr. Matt Stubbs, wanted for murdering ear cells , and Mr. Chris Ravelli, drummer for Roomful of Blooze. This is the greatest night of the year. If  you’ve never seen Gordie, you should be ashamed of yourself. You won’t wanna eat after hearing this guy.
And, thanks to  all you groovy kate and kittens for supporting live music thru out the year. Not just at the Rhumb Line on Thursdays but all over town, every night, everywhere. We all thank you and wish you  all the very best for the coming year.

suitcase full of lobsters

Woman’s missing suitcase full of lobsters has been found

What’s black, has wheels and is stuffed to the gills? Why, a suitcase filled with frozen lobsters, of course. Police in Halifax, Nova Scotia, put out a call for a “suitcase full of lobster and gifts,” which a bus driver found lying in the street. Krista Nash was alerted to the bulletin, and was overjoyed — it belonged to her sister-in-law, Stacey Nash, and had fallen from a pickup while taking Stacey to the airport on New Year’s Eve. But, ew, who wants to eat a bunch of spoiled lobsters? Fortunately, an alert cop had placed the suitcase in a freezer. “They’re going to be able to have lobster,” a police spokesman said. [Source]

Going Vegan

White-Pan-Pizza-with-Mushrooms

(vegan pizza recipes here)

Last night Mike and I watched Vegucated on Netflix. It’s an eye opening movie, and not for the weak stomach.  Vegucated follows 3 New Yorkers as they experiment with a vegan diet. Not only does it focus on the health benefits, but also the impact the demand for meat and dairy has on animals and the environment.

Most of the movie is pretty censored, but there are some pretty awful parts… like when they show male chicks being ground alive, simply because they are male and won’t produce eggs. Pretty disturbing how animals are treated on today’s farms in order to keep up with American consumption and the impact these animals have on our environment.

I always thought veganism was for the crazy hippie lady, but now I have a different view.

I don’t think I will ever be fully vegan, I love cheeses, eggs, meat and fish. And there’s nothing like a gooey cheesy pizza or bacon and eggs. But, I do think there are ways to make more responsible choices. Knowing where my food comes from, how the animals treated and simply by consuming less. I plan on adding much more fruits and vegetables to my diet, and researching more ethical meat and dairy sources.

This may be a controversial topic, as we do live in a huge fishing community. And this isn’t the first vegan GMG post, but I am interested in your thoughts. Are you vegan? Have you seen the movie or other similar movies? What restaurants in the area offer vegan menu options?  Where do you shop for vegan foods?

Restaurants/Stores feel free to post a link to your vegan options. Local farms tell us what you do differently…

Hi Joey!

Thank you for posting the photos I took of the high tide at Good Harbor Beach.  Here are two photos from a bunch that I took this morning through my kitchen window of the Robins feasting on a berry bush across the street.  Their rusty breasts looked so pretty against the snow.

Have fun on News Years Eve!

We Can Get Busy Livin’ Or We Can Get Busy Dying. What’s It Gonna Be For You In 2013?

Len Burgess submits-

Joey, our man for all seasons, thanks for all the fun in 2012 too…

NwYrPlunge13_5149_thumb2

Joey edit-

Yeah I look pretty silly in this hat. Yeah we got freaks like Morrison strapping a Rubber Duck around his waist and Ardizzoni wearing a wonder woman outfit, newphew BJ and his buddies and Amandacakes and her buddies wearing bodypaint, and all our other crazy community friends that take part of the Polar Plunges all over in icy cold water.

It’s a New Year.  Break down some barriers for yourself, don’t let others dictate how you act, stay positive, have fun and follow your passions through.

YOU CAN GET BUSY LIVIN’ OR YOU CAN GET BUSY DYING.

WHAT’S IT GONNA BE FOR YOU IN 2013?

John Wright Asks About Rockport’s Submerged Breakwater- I’m guessing The Infamous One Or Fred Bodin Has The Deets For An Interesting Follow Up To His Question

Hi Joey,
I had a discussion with my father-in-law, Pete Ciarametaro, a former fleet fisherman, about a curious man-made rock structure 1.64 miles due east of pigeon cove.
It is linear and facing due north. It is about 500 feet long.
He says it’s a breakwater. I say it’s too far out to be a breakwater and in the past might have been a staging area for the fleet.
Would you have any knowledge of this structure? It’s purpose and when it was built?
Thanks,
John

Why these trees are wearing saran wrapped belts around their middles? Annisquam resident, Liz Dooley, submitted photo and wants to know. I’m curious too.
