thx Fred. . It’s great to have access to so many of your old gems/photos! What a large arena for skating. Is that Gloucester or Rockport’s Mill Pond. ..? I saw people buying skates at a church fair yesterday . . . not quite thick ice yet, but yup, here comes Wintah!

You’re welcome Liz. This is Gloucester. It’s nice to see people enjoying themselves, in spite of all the battlefront news of World War II.

That’s my neighborhood, spent my childhood skating on that pond and also iceberging. I was the one girl that would do it. We would break a big piece of ice and then smaller ones and jump them. I was so luck to have all that in my Riverdale Park backyard.

They surely were fun and in days pond could see the fish that didn’t get low enough before frozen and remember the crackling sound when got a wee bit to close to edge…Beeline it back to safer location or in for a very cold expereince have to go home and change clothes. Lots of hockey in those days CCM skates and Sticks…:-)

Great old shot of the old mill pond. Back in the days when the ponds froze solid like this I’d walk across that very span to get too and from O’Maley school. Always a hair raising adventure.
