Africa 01966 USA?

Janet and I occasionally walk up Phillips Avenue, and have enjoyed a little park along the way. We'd sit on the ledge or a bench to enjoy the view. There were no sculptures or signs then, so we thought it was public. Now we know it's private, but not clearly not connected to a nearby house. Your thoughts?

There are all sorts of wild African animals in this little park, including some monkeys and people. Perhaps Marty and Barbara Luster can help us identify them.

These are more of the amazing granite sculptures. Does anyone know the story behind them? Let us know.

  1. Fred – the person who owns the large ocean front house across from this park (with the steep driveway going down) owns it and the lot next to it which is directly behind our house – they have been slowly over the last few years clearing this land and adding sculptures to it – I guess when they pull up their driveway they have something nice to look at? Or they collect sculpture and had no other place to put it? It is a bit odd.

    1. Here’s a comment from Ginny Renehan on my FB Page: “The sculptures, granite, nor the artist are local. They were brought in from Nigeria where the artist lives and works. Sculptures are privately owned and displayed on a private lot. No trespassing signs are posted.” The signs I saw said: “Please respect our privacy.”

    1. Outrunning ~ As kids we would be riding them and outrunning the owners of the property! However, the artist is may be sending a message as important as the messages on the Babson Boulders at Dogtown Common. Otherwise ~ with a keep out notice like that ~ I would love to see the house!

  3. I think the thought process over the past few years was, “I would hate to have someone buy those lots across the street and put a house in” so they bought the lots. Then about a year later a lion shows up. Lately the wild animals have been multiplying.

Absolutely amazing is a pretty good description.
