Get ready for a great time. I was born in Lajes do Pico, I went back a couple of years ago at the end of August, there are many celebrations, through out the island at that time.
Each of the nine islands are unique, and beautiful.

Not sure where they thought they were but the islands did not have any native animals on them, only vegetation, ocean oriented life. They are too far away from any land mass.
