Epes Davis Shipyard.
The shipyard is on the Annisquam side, to the right of the bridge.

What’s that humongous thing above the tree on the hozizon to the upper right? A boulder? Squam Rock? RIP Annisquam’s “Working Waterfront”…

I think my photo in this post may be of Great Rock. Anybody know? It’s one heck of a rock!

EJ. We live here now, David and Ginni Spencer, at the Epes Davis house. It is great fun. Lots of grandchildren and lots of noise.
Seems the lower house was used as a coal storage area at the time of your photo. Earlier it was a ship building shop. Later it was used as a paint shop and shed. And much later a dance hall.
Now it is residential use. Great place. Great history. Great neighborhood
Thanks for sharing this great print.

Now I’ve seen the rock called Great Rock (on a post card), Young’s Great Rock, and Squam Rock elsewhere. I think Great Rock is the older name. Come to the gallery to see the Epes Davis print in person: 82 Main Street in Gloucester. info@bodinhistoricphoto.com

I grew up on Leonard St next door to Professor S.Foster Damon. He lived in the Madame Goss house. Our backyard was that end of the Cove. Great memories of learning to swim, row, sail, run an outboard and water ski. This is a great photograph. Thanks.

Under Squam Rock is a large Elm tree which was in our yard. You can see the roof of our house. Foster Damon’s house is the large house to the left. I believe it was a tavern at one time.
