Elizabeth O’Dess Takes Pictures of Unearthed Boat On Long Beach

Hello Joe,
My neighbor, Judy Bidwell , mentioned you might be interested in
these photos taken recently at Long Beach. This structure was
unearthed/exposed after the second storm. From what I understand it
surfaces every twenty years or so (the last time was supposedly
1991), but I still haven’t had confirmation of what it was. At first
glance it appears to be the underside of a boat hull, but the exposed
wooden trunnels suggest that this may not be the case….maybe some
part of machinery such as a cog used for moving quarry rock? I would
love to know the answer if one of your reader’s know. I enjoy Good
Morning Gloucester and look forward to seeing it in my “in” box every
morning…keep up the good work.

This probably sounded like a great idea: Having Breakfast with Joey of GMG.

Just think of all the great conversation you could have with someone so connected to this great City!

But the winners are in for a surprise. I know from experience that joey does’nt talk much when he’s eating. Also watch your fingers when reaching for the last piece of Bacon. It could be a big mistake.

Wellspring Cape Ann Families Community Appreciation Awards

Child-of-the-Year, Parent-of-the-Year or Family-Supporter of the Year!

Do you know a child, parent or community member who has made a difference or added to the community in a special way?

Consider nominating them as a “Child-of-the-Year”, “Parent-of-the-Year” or “Family-Supporter-of-the-Year!”

Wellspring Cape Ann Families is now accepting nominations for the 14^th Annual Community Appreciation Awards and will recognize those children, parents and family supporters who have made a difference and contributed to their families or the community in a special way. The awards ceremony will be held Sunday, April 25^th at 3:00pm at Cruiseport, Gloucester.

Nominations are being accepted in three distinct award categories: Child of the Year (with three age categories), Parent of the Year, and Family Supporter of the Year.

These awards are named in memory of Howard Blackburn, (1859-1932), a local fisherman who invested in the community of Gloucester and recognized the need for interdependence to sustain a thriving community- A hero who strengthened family life on Cape Ann.

Anyone is eligible to nominate. Past winners have included teachers, school nurses, day-care providers, along with children and adults from Cape Ann and the North Shore.

Introduction to Smalti Workshop

April 18th from 9 o 5

Learn to work with the beautifully colored glass seen in the mosaics of the great cathedrals throughout the world. We will focus on the fundamentals of cutting smalti using nippers to create a vibrant, colorful 6”x6” mosaic. Materials and a choice of designs will be provided to allow you to use your newly acquired techniques and skills.

Limited to 8 people. $150.00

Introduction to Mosaics Workshop

May 9th 9 to 5 and May 16th from 9 to 12

We will discuss the four elements of mosaics: tessera, adhesives, substrates, and grout. Bring with you a 10″ by 10″ drawing that you would like to create in mosaic. Some designs will be available if you do not have a plan of your own. I will provide colored vitreous glass and ceramic tile.

You may incorporate materials of your own; broken pottery, beach glass, shells, minerals or other personal treasures. Limited to 8 people. $150.00

I’m looking for any GMG Photogs or followers that can share some Tips on Photographing Paintings.

Are there any Artists that would like to share some Tips?

I’m sure there are others out there that would benefit from your help.

So far taking photos outside in indirect sunlight worked best, but the photo tends to be on the Blue side.

I never seem to get the colors right. or I get too much glare. I’m not Photoshop literate so all help will be appreciated.

Donna Ardizzoni Has A Message For People Who Litter

Donna Writes-

As a member of The One Hour at a Time Gang (we try on Saturday mornings to clean the streets and beaches), I must say the cigarette butts are disgusting.

The city needs to fine people for throwing this litter on our streets.

Could it be that smokers who throw cigarettes out of windows and on streets not know that is littering — just like throwing a coffee cup out onto the streets and onto our beaches? As we clean, most of the litter is cigarette butts.

Please smokers, think before you throw them on the ground.

Our environment and city will thank you.

Tony Toledo has been paying the rent with his mouth since 1990. Kids at elementary schools, libraries, and festivals all yell for more stories. Tony adds sign language to some of his stories since his wife is deaf. They live on a massive tenth of an acre estate with just room enough for his wife’s basil, his books and their Corn Museum . Tony is 52 years old but reads at a 67 year old level. He also hosts SPEAK UP! Spoken Word Open Mike every Wednesday evening in Lynn , MA , which has been going strong for two years.

Alicia Quintano has traveled to 38 states telling stories in theaters, universities, coffeehouses, and on the radio. New England appearances include Gloucester Stage Company, Passim’s, and First Night Boston.

Andrea Lovett was born talking and telling tales but has been telling professionally since 1992. She tells to audiences of all ages on all stages. She is the co-founder of MassMouth and the ever growing series of story slams located in both downtown Boston and Cambridge . On the 28th of March she’ll be telling personal stories with lots of humor tucked in.

Laura Lovett is an author and storyteller. She has two novels in progress, has had work published in magazines and has had works read on radio. She’s currently a student at UMass Amherst.

With her singing saw in tow, over the years Leigh Calabrese has been humbled to perform with artists including What Time Is It Mr. Fox?, The Sob Sisters, Sukey Tawdry, Beat Circus, The Burlesque Revival Association, and (of course) as part of the soundtrack to countless haunted houses. And yes, it does cut wood.
