Where Zat? #12

Where Zat?

Last week’s winner was Paul Frontiero AKA capeannpainter who on a long shot guessed the identity as a Lane’s Cove shack.

Because of the economy, we have suspended asking small businesses for prize donations. BUT… it’s still fun and past winners don’t have to feel guilty about guessing!

A huge thank you to the businesses who have donated the prizes in the past.

This week’s location might be too easy…Sorry, Joey!

Passports Cheese Steak Sub With Joey Fries

So I swung by Passports the other day for lunch and ordered up a cheesesteak sub.  They serve them on soft Virgilio’s rolls and are delicious.   Anyway, Julie asked me if I’d like fries with that and of course I said yes.  Now when she goes over to the kitchen to tell Jeremy the chef my order she says “Joey will have a cheesesteak with “Joey Fries”.
You see I have them prepare my hand cut fries a special way- Sliced thinly and cooked well to get them nice and crispy and then with lots of salt.
You can see what Passports “Joey Fries” look like in the pic below.

Blue Sky Farm Barn Raising Update 2/18/09

Shingles are going on.

It looks to me like there was a change.  If you look in the left of the frame in the picture above there is a square window.  But in the pictures that were taken earlier it seems that it was framed out for a door in this location.

Who was Blynman?

Blynman Schoolhouse
Blynman Schoolhouse

The Blynman Bridge and the Blynman School were named for Rev. Richard Blynman, the first minister of the town. The History of the Town of Gloucester, written by John James Babson in 1860, has the interesting background of the bridge and Cape Ann in general. I’m going back to read more.

Bananas Vintage Martini Sets

Yesterday morning while swinging through town I saw Bananas open and I planned on popping in to see if FOB (friend of the blog) Debbie Clark was working.

Debbie wasn’t in but owner Richard Leonard was so I got to chatting with Richard about how long he had been in business with Bananas and what motivates him after all these years.  The video interview will be posted at 2:00PM today

There’s a lot of cool stuff that Richard has packed into his shop.  Among them are these vintage martini sets.

Looking for something fun to do to break up the routine?  Here’s a suggestion-

Go down to Bananas and get yourself one of these vintage martini sets.  Then invite a couple of your closest friends over, mix up some maritinis and get shmammered.  Sounds like a hell of an idea to me!
