The Bean Takes Photos at The George Anderson Gallery Rockport

During our family day in Rockport last week the Bean and I took another Photo Safari.

We started out at The George Anderson Gallery.  George Anderson has many contemporary paintings with lobstermen and local scenes.

From George’s Website-

George Anderson is a contemporary artist specializing in marine / nautical, abstract, mexican, rural and urban motifs. George resides in Rockport, MA, where he owns an oceanside gallery. He is well known for paintings that reflect marine or nautical subjects found along the New England coastline.

He is most recognized for his “Gloucester Waterfront” Series, in which George conveys the lives of the port’s hardworking fishermen with bright colors and abstract shapes. His most recent motif “City Streets” is based on experiences during his many visits to Manhattan. A series of large oils on canvas, “City Streets” uses mixed media techniques which combine images of the streets with the objects collected from them.

Bumble Bee Slide Show

It was a pleasant surprise to come home from Naples and see all the trees in bloom and the grass green.  Bare trees are not my favorite thing.

Yesterday the bees were working furiously around the house so the Bean and I grabbed our cameras and took a mini photo safari (that’s what we call them anyway) around the house.  I was all about the bees and our kwanzaan cherry tree which is starting to bloom.  The Bean was more interested in taking pictures of the tulips and flowers.

The Bean says-

“I didn’t take any pictures of the bumble bees because I thought they were going to sting me.”

The Bean and Daddy’s Photo Safari Slide Show

Well mammaw got the Bean her first camera for Easter and yesterday we walked around Fifth Avenue and The Naples Pier (the same pier my grandfather Captain Joe used to fish off of daily during his winters in Naples).  We spent the day on a photo safari taking pictures and me teaching her some of the basics.  I have to say that at her young age of 4 and a half she really does a pretty good job of framing her shots.

I’ve been teaching her about trying to take pictures with the light behind you and shining onto your subjects and teaching her about some of the basic functions on the camera like the macro setting and other stuff.  She really seems to love it and I had about the best time that I’ve had down here sharing one of my passions with my daughter.  It was just great.

The slide show is a mix of pictures that she took and I took while on our photo safari together.

The Girls

Heading home today.

Although the weather we’ve had has been the worst I’ve experienced in almost 20 years of coming to Naples it was still a successful trip.  The girls have been spectacular and we found plenty of other fun things to do.   The parks being the main attractions for the girls.

The Bean Captures This Picture For Mammaw

Yesterday I gave the camera to the Bean to take pictures much like Sharon did with grandaughter Kylie last week.

To say that I’ve created a monster would be an understatement.  She is going to need her own camera.

Click the picture below to see the slide show of pictures entirely taken by the Bean.  These were the best  33 out of about 120 she took.

Don’t Mess With Snoop Maddie Mad

Adventures in babysitting day3.

We’ve been going to the park every day for a couple different reasons-Cambier Park behind Fifth Ave in Naples is a pretty bad ass park, the girls love it there and beg to go back, and we’ve been finishing up the days there running them hard to get them to sleep well at night.

Well yesteday we had an interesting experience with a little boy.  He was about 6 years old and Snoop Mad and The Bean are 2 and 4 respectively.  The way the park is set up you run around and climb up this pretty elaborate maze of steps and turns to get to the top of the slide platform.  The girls would make their way up there and then come flying down the slide one by one.

I was watching them do this routine over and over and there was another couple about ten feet away who were watching their 6 year old boy.

The boy started to harass the girls a little bit by standing at the bottom of the slide and making scary noises so they didnt want to come down.

I don’t want to baby them too much and realize that they are going to have to learn how to handle themselves in these situations so I just went over to the slide to make sure the kid didn’t hit them or anything and I told the girls to wait for the little boy to move before they came down the slide.

The parents of this little boy were standing just 10 feet away and obviously saw what was going on but did nothing and I was a little pissed off about that but again I realize that I’m not always going to be there when the girls encounter these kinds of situations so I watched to make sure they were safe but also I didn’t want the girls to get too nervous.

So you should know that the elder of the girls The Bean is like me- neurotic and nervous most of the time.  The two year old Snoop Maddie Mad however is an entirely different animal, she’s just wired differently.  She has no fear, she acts without thinking and is headstrong like her mother.

Well the boy finally moved (no thanks to his parents which I’m sure the father was getting off on his son’s behavior) and the Bean and Snoop Mad came down the slide.   At the bottom of the slide Snoop Mad got right up in the boy’s grill and stuck her finger in his belly and Screamed “You’re BADDDD!” and gave him a shove.  The kid had to be three times her size but went off skulking.
