THEN and NOW – Stage Fort Cannons

Stage Fort itself was used during the American Revolution, which is evident in the cannons that line the path to the top of he rocky cliffs.

Seafood Throwdown, Farmers Market, Live Music on Schooners and in the Streets. It’s still Summer folks!

Seafood Throwdown
NAMA’s Niaz Dorry with the Mystery Fish (gray sole) at a July 2010 Seafood Throwdown won by Sugar Mags

Can you feel it?  People trying to pack a whole summer into the last week before school starts, which seems to get earlier every year.  It feels like there’s so much going on that every choice we make effectively says “No” to a dozen other things we’d like to do.  Take today for instance.  Live music starts at 11:30am at Stage Fort Park and continues into the night at restaurants, clubs, @ Shalin Liu, on schooners and in the streets.  See the full live music schedule here.

Just in case that’s not enough for you, there’s also the Farmer’s Market at Stage Fort Park from 3-6:30 and today you can catch NAMA’s only Gloucester-based Seafood Throwdown of the year at 4:30 featuring a showdown between 2012 HarvestFest champs Gloucester’s Willow Rest and 2008 Genoa World Pesto champs Beverly’s Prides Osteria.  Spectators get to taste the food so you really don’t want to miss this one!

See how much fun these Seafood Throwdowns are in this video by Joey from the 2010 epic rematch between Passports & Dog Bar.

Hi Joey
I was at Stage Fort Park Sunday afternoon and happened to see this

The Gloucester Dog Park at Stage Fort Park opened officially on Saturday. Many 2 legged and 4 legged friends came out to play in the park for the first time. I was surprised by how many people came out.

Congrats to the Friends of the Gloucester Dog Park for making it a huge success!

The Dog park has three sections, one for Large dogs, one for smaller dogs, and another for dogs who may not be completely ready to romp with their friends. At the entrance to each play area are park rules. Make sure you and your dog(s) follow those rules for everyone’s safety. You can read them HERE.

It was nice to see the dogs chasing each other, playing with their humans and relaxing in the sun. I would say it’s dog approved!

Aerial Video of Portions of Stage Fort Park From Charlie Carroll

Charlie writes-

Shot this this afternoon… It’s an Aerial Video of portions of Stage Fort Park.

There is a New Set of Propellers on the machine that haven’t been balanced yet and they are causing some distortion…

Will have the problem corrected this weekend.

Does this guy play baseball? He was one of the finalists.

Good catch!

Good catch, but she’s a goner…

Some people got eggy, but everyone had fun!

Holy Family Parish Picnic

Last weekend, Holy Family parish had it’s annual outdoor Mass and picnic at Stage Fort Park.  I didn’t get any photos of the outdoor Mass, because I consider it inappropriate (at best) to pull out a camera and take photos while wearing liturgical vestments and concelebrating the service. However, I got some nice photos of the fun that came afterwards.  As I am going away on vacation for a week, I will post shots of the different activities in a series of posts.

Today: the men of our local Knights of Columbus cooking and serving a tasty meal!
