Fish Box Derby Registration and Weigh-in was held at the Fisk Organ shop today, here are a few pics! We will also accept registrations and do inspections for those who could not make it today – this Wednesday evening Sept. 11th, 6-7pm. We urge any previous racers who may be interested in loaning or selling their cars to contact the Fish Box Derby at 978-283-1932. Don’t forget the THRILL OF THE HILL! this Sunday, Sept. 15th at High Noon, on Rogers Street hill!

2013 Fishbox Derby Race will be held
September 15th High Noon
The cars are entered into one of two categories: “Freestyle” or “Modified”. Prize categories include the traditional First, Second, Third, Fourth, Best Pit Crew and Koolest Car. In the past, First Place winners have won a mountain bike from Seaside cycle, Second Place winners have won a six month family membership to the YMCA, Third Place winners have won tickets from Cape Ann Whale Watch and Fourth Place winners have won wrist watch. Many other great prizes donated by local merchants are awarded.
Donations made to the Fish Box Derby Race help to cover all race related expenses. The balance is placed in a scholarship fund for the young participants. Each participant is eligible to apply for scholarship funds as she or he prepares to graduate from High School. On Sunday, Sept. 15 the Gloucester Gig Rowers hosted our Fourth Annual Gloucester Harbor Race http://www.gloucestergigrowers.com/harbor_race , starting at Niles Beach. Despite threatening weather at the start, it turned out to be a glorious, exciting day for all!

Tall ships "Westward", "Harvey Gamage" and "Spirit of Massachusetts" all rafted together, plus Harold Burnham’s lovely schooner "Ardelle" – along with our three Cornish pilot gigs.

Here are some photos of the Fish Box Derby registration and weigh-in held last Sunday morning at C. B. Fisk. The race will be this Sunday, Sep. 16th, at High Noon on the Rogers St. Hill. We encourage everyone to come out there Sunday and cheer these fantastic kids on – the Thrill of the Hill is at its best with a great audience!

Hi Joey,
Gloucester Gig Rowers held our christening and launching party on Sunday evening, 8 Jul for our new 32′ Cornish Pilot Gig, custom-built for us by the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum’s Champlain Longboats School http://www.lcmm.org/education/champlain_longboats.htm . Here are a few pictures of our party party to celebrate the arrival of our new boat, and christen her. She can be seen moored at the Harriet Webster Pier at Gloucester Maritime, on Harbor Loop.
The boat’s name is the "Annie B", and one picture shows Annie Banks, her namesake and one of the chief founders of Gloucester Gig Rowers, breaking the traditional bottle of champaign over her bow.
Sorry this took a while – I needed to secure the club’s approval for all of these mug shots to be published before sending this. We would be grateful for any coverage which you could provide us!

We had a great inspection and registration clinic today – looks like we’ll have about 30 great cars for the 17th consecutive running of the Fish Box Derby Race on Sunday, Sept. 18th at High Noon on Rogers Street!
