Grilled Veggie Pesto Pizza
Grilled Veggie Pesto Pizza
A few summers ago, I came across a mouth watering photo of a Grilled Veggie Pesto Pizza on the very popular Blog site “The Pioneer Women” belonging to Ree Drummond. When I read the list of ingredients included in Ree’s Grilled Veggie Pesto Pizza; pesto, grilled zucchini, goat cheese, roasted peppers… I immediately got hungry, and knew I had to make it for a friends end of the summer BBQ. Using zucchini, summer squash, and basil, from my farm share at the Applenton Farm I whipped up my own “Basil Pesto” recipe and followed Ree’s guide for the pizza. After sampling the first bite I fell in love. The combination of flavors is absolutely amazing! The past few summers I have made it numerous times and it’s always a big hit. I give “The Pioneere Women,” Ree Drummond’s Grilled Veggie Pesto Pizza a double thumbs up! Trust me, give this one a try…you won’t be disappointed. It’s a great way to use fresh zucchini and basil growing this time of year!
Tonight we are celebrating a few friends Belated Birthdays’ on the beach… and this is on the menu!

CRAIG’S FAV JOINTS – SURFSIDE PIZZA & SUBS
This is the inaugural episode of my new series that showcases anything I’m really diggin’ at the moment. And right now, I’m feeling me some SURFRIDER PIZZA. You may know that they have great subs on fresh baked bread, but do you know how awesome the pie is there? This place churns out some amazing specialty pies, one of my favorites being the Pollo Pesto, trust. But in this episode, I go in deep for the classic: pepperoni and cheese. For me, it’s all about hand tossed, freshly made thin crust. I’m not about some sweet sauce either, that’s just wrong. Some call in New York style, I call it proper. Whether it’s a white garlic pizza, pesto, red sauce, you name it, SURFRIDER has something for ya!

Hawaiian Pizza With Smoked Gouda Barbecue Bechamel Sauce
Are you looking for a way to serve your ham leftover from Easter Dinner?
Surprise the kids this week with this tasty Hawaiian Pizza. BJ and William said “the smoky cheese, salty ham and sweet pineapple is perfectly paired with the full-bodied flavors of barbecue” and loved” the stuff” on the bottom…LOL… “That Stuff” would be the Smoked Gouda Barbecue Béchamel Sauce!

Pizza from Mike’s Place
First, thanks to those who prayed for me this week while I was on retreat. I got a good spiritual boost!
This evening, after my return, Fr. John Kiley (the pastor) and I decided to have pizza for dinner. We have a sort of tradition of getting onion & roasted red pepper pizza from Sebastian’s (58 Washington Street). However, after six phone calls I still could not get through to them, so we decided to try the same kind of pizza, but from Mike’s Place this time. I’ve read good reviews here on GMG and elsewhere, and it’s right around the corner from the rectory.
The pizza was ready on time, fresh and hot, and the staff were busy but friendly.
It tasted as good as it looked. It was especially good with a bottle of Gloucester Soda which I bought at the street bazaar.
In short, since the pizza was great, and the location is very convenient with respect to the parish rectory (and they have sufficient parking), Fr. John and I will probably start to frequent Mike’s Place more often!

Valentino’s Pizza Reopens With Thin Crust
It was good, a crust unlike any other in Gloucester. Incredible that yet another Pizza joint opens within a football field’s distance of at least 7 places to buy pizza. I count Sclafani’s, Sebastians, Virgilio’s, Giuseppe’s, La Trattoria, Minglewood Tavern, Valentino’s and I’m not sure if Café Sicilia does or doesn’t sell pizza. All within a football field range.
Hopefully they can carve out their own niche and everyone can prosper.

Mike’s Place
After a long day of working on the house on Saturday we decided to grab some pizza from Mike’s Place. We ordered “the Favorite” with extra cheese. The favorite is their cheese pizza with sweet sauce. I don’t usually like sweet sauce on pizza, but this was very good. Obviously the extra cheese isn’t for someone who is watching their waistline. It’s nice that Mike’s is open late and has the option of take out or you can eat at one of their booths.
Now I need to try Igloo, the ice cream/slushie place, they just opened next door.
