A note from the Science All Around Us Kicksarter Project Update:
“As we mentioned in our Kickstarter pitch, if we raise more than our goal of $35,000 we will use the additional funds to hire a team to create an interactive and fun website that will allow Collin to engage with kids from all walks of life. This will be a state-of-the-art site that will grow along with the series. It will also keep Science All Around Us alive and growing online as we produce the pilot and find the right broadcast outlet for Collin and this series.”

Captain Tom Ellis of the Schooner Thomas E. Lannon and Nubar Alexanian of Walker Creek Media are working together to bring to fruition an amazing young boy’s vision: a science educational series created by and starring a kid. The series, “Science All Around Us,” will be produced right here in Gloucester, and so far it looks beautiful. Take a look at their Kickstarter campaign.
This new friend of Captain Tom believes that science doesn’t only need to be taught by adults. Kids can (and should) teach other kids too! Right now, this amazing project needs your help. They’ve got the talent, the passion, the powerful idea and all they need are the resources to make it happen. Even if you can’t donate, check out Collin’s answer to his father’s question about why we should care about science by clicking on the questions below. It will convince you this is a project that matters.![]()

Nubar Alexanian’s documentary short, Calling All Chefs is having its World Premiere at the NYC Food Film Festival on October 30th. Produced by Walker Creek Media, this is the story of the improbable collaboration between a sub shop owner and a Michelin-starred Italian chef who moved to Cape Ann with his family and needed a job.
Both Alexanian & Laboa will be at the premiere in New York, where Chef Paolo and his wife Mercedes will be making a little something special for all 300 guests to taste while they watch the film.
If you’ll be in NYC you can get tickets HERE. The NYC Food Film Festival is a wonderful event, where people who love food can eat, drink and watch films about the growing, prepping and cooking of all kinds of food.
Editor’s note: Paolo Laboa and wife Mercedes will be opening up shop in the former Alchemy space soon.

A two-day workshop for intermediate & advanced photographers to build, edit & sequence a strong portfolio or body of work. Whether you’re working on a long-term project, building a portfolio, a book or trying to find a cohesive thread in your work as a whole, each participant’s work will be reviewed with emphasis on how to strengthen their ability to communicate ideas visually.
In this workshop, you’ll gain important perspective on the editing process as you work to refine your own portfolio, and how to look at your work and see what it’s asking for. We’ll also explore how sequencing and context can alter the power and meaning of images. Our goal is for you to leave this workshop with greater insight and confidence in the direction of your own work.

Each blade is 45 meters long. This is what it looks like before the cone is added and it’s lifted into place. Lost light before it could be lifted into place today.
The photo above is a small representation of the full size photo which you can view on Nubar’s site.
Joey: just put this short video together of the boat tribute to Joe Garland last weekend. It’s short and sweet and something I’ve never seen done before for an individual.
