Jones River Fans

Beautiful sunset at Jones River Marsh tonight. I was able to take a few pictures and meet a fun Gloucester couple.

Meet John & Colleen. They both love taking photographs, sunsets, and the local Gloucester music scene.  They hadn’t heard about GMG, but I have a feeling they will be dedicated GMG readers from now on!

Local Music Seen Get’s Their Stuff Online. First Up, The Bandit Kings!

Peter Van Ness Writes-

Dear Joey,
You’ve been telling me since December that we JUST HAD to get the Local MusicSeen shows on the Web.  Well, we finally got our first archive video published thanks to the help of our very talented and resourceful Web editor Jon Cooney.
See it here  http://localmusicseen.com/BanditKings.cfm

In order to make it work best on the Web, Jon cut it into 3 parts.  I’ve published all 3 on a single page so you can watch the entire show at once if you like.

We picked The Bandit Kings show for our archive debut for several reasons — some technical — but mostly because it’s a SUPERB SHOW!  Performances are stellar; the energy reaches through the screen and grabs you; songwriting is inspired — and they look so good on camera!

Hope you enjoy it — and remember, Joey, when you speak we listen!

The trees are back! Once again generous Cape Ann Symphony supporters are decorating small table-top trees, as well as wreaths, to grace your home. In a silent auction, you are invited to bid on your favorites when they go on display in the Lobby at the Fuller Auditorium, during the upcoming holiday pops concerts . On Monday, Nov. 29, the Trees and Wreaths will be relocated downtown to Brown’s Mall, 180 Main Street , where you can follow the auction progress on your own special favorite, or make a new bid. The Auction ends on Saturday December 4th. For more information please call 978-283-6750.

The Magic of the Holidays

Our traditional Thanksgiving weekend kick-off to the Holiday Season will be filled with musical cheer once again at the Cape Ann Symphony Pops concert. First off will be the performance of Mozart’s Magic Flute Overture. According to our conductor Yoichi, this is one of Mozart’s greatest and most loved overtures, filled with a tremendous amount of movement and energy. Next is Humperdink’s Hansel & Gretel Prelude, followed by Pierpont’s Tintinabulations and Bach’s Little Suite. The first half of the program will conclude with the ever popular Anderson’s Christmas Festival. Following the intermission, the Cape Ann Symphony Singers will join the orchestra. Directed by Wendy Betts, they now total nearly 70 members. They will join the Symphony with a selection of fine holiday choral pieces including a beautiful Hebrew arrangement by Nurit Hirsch titled Bashana Haba’na. The singers will conclude with Handel’s always uplifting Hallelujah Chorus from The Messiah. The concert will end with the traditional Christmas singalong. Come one, come all!

Celebrate Gloucester Release Party Benefit Thursday Night

This is going to be a blast!!!!!!! I’ll be there, will you?

Peter Van Ness Writes-

Hey Joey,

Pete Lindberg, who was originally not able to play at the Celebrate Gloucester Release Party Benefit is going to be there after all.  That means you can see live performances by 6 of the stars who were at the original concert.  Plus Sam Hartson, the director, will be there.  Here’s the new poster including a great screen shot of Pete from the film.

There are still seats left, but it will likely sell out, so tell people to call 978.525.9093 to reserve a seat or go to this link: http://www.gimmesound.com/CelebrateGloucester.cfm

See you there!

Last Night’s Benefit for Morgan

What a great time at the fundraiser for our good friend, Morgan Huke! Morgan has been the force behind the Harbor Loop concerts and many other music endeavors on Cape Ann. He recently has had some serious medical issues. This event was the perfect way to help Morgan and bring  musicians and supporters  together for a fantastic night.

Here are a few photos-more to follow.

“The Gold” By Willie Alexander Video From Henry Ferrini

Video From Henry Ferrini

Joey,
Here’s the event that closed out the incredibly successful and stimulating  Olson100 Celebration. Hundreds of people came to Gloucester to celebrate Olson’s birthday. Willie Loco Alexander, Alek and Rik Razdan and Dave “doc” Vincent  perform Willie’s “the gold” a poem by Charles Olson’s good friend Gloucester Poet Laureate  Vincent Ferrini (1913-2007). The tune is from Willie’s award-winning CD, “Vincent Ferrini’s Greatest Hits.”  If people like what they hear, they can get Willie’s work at Gloucester Music or Mystery Train.
best,
Henry
