Guest Post- Erika Hansen Has a Where The Locals Go Coupon Book Story

From Erika-

Here’s the story about Cape Ann Savings Bank:
A customer came into Main Street’s own Bubbles, a shop that is all about pampering and froufrou and glitter, looking rather confused.  Bubbles herself, a/k/a Trisha Sanford, asked how she could help.
“The bank sent me here for a $300 coupon off my closing cost…I’m sorry.  I knew it must have been a joke” and he turned to leave.  “No, wait,” says Trisha.  “That sounds like the Where the Locals Go! coupon book.”
She promptly picked up a copy (for sale right at the register), looked in the directory, and sure enough, on p. 135 was a coupon from Cape Ann Savings Bank to receive $300 off your closing cost.  The man quickly paid his $10 for the coupon book, went back to the bank, saved $290 and now has hundreds of other coupons from the book to use!
For $10, buying this book is a no-brainer.  In addition to the discounts, the book is full of information about Cape Ann and highlights local heroes in our community.
It is for sale throughout Cape Ann at many stores including The Bookstore and Dogtown Book Shop, Toad Hall in Rockport and Manchester By The Book and will be for sale at the upcoming Rhythm & Flavors concert.   Come by and get your copy before they are all gone!  Coupons are good through March 31, 2009.

Team Can Do

I can’t even express how lucky I feel to have worked with our team on the first ever Downtown Block Party.

Work is a funny word though because not for a second did it feel that way.  It was 100% positive energy.

Erika and Dave Hansen, Peter and Vickie Van Ness, Janice, Jackie Hardy, the Council,  the performers, the Police, the liquor licensing board, Donna Ardizzoni paying for the banners, Steve Noble and Ringo Tarr for helping with the lights, Cathy Tarr for donating the Downtowngloucester.com domain name, Lee Bolton for providing technical assistance, Ernie Morin with his fantastic slide show.

AMAZING!

You wanna know who else deserves much credit?

The restaurant owners who did everything we asked of them to get the permitting done and make their seating outside cool and funky.
The YMCA Street Team for helping out keep the place clean.

The Folks at seARTS that jumped on board and moved their art exhibits on Center street to coincide with the Block Party.   The stores that had cheese and grapes.

The list goes on and on and on, point being that it was all GLOUCESTER PEOPLE pitching in for their own great vibe and giving of and to each other.

It was positive energy put forth from positive people, it was destined to be great from the start.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for everyone that helped out and came down to rediscover how incredible downtown Gloucester with it’s cool coffee shops, incredible restaurants and unique retailers and art scene really is.

I feel like the luckiest guy on earth as I write this.

Erika, Dave, Peter, Vickie, Janice, and Jackie -the team with the positive vision and energy to carry it out, I don’t really know how it became that we all got together for this thing but I would assemble the same team 100 times out of 100 to do it all over again.

Team Can Do, we got ‘er done.

Lee Bolton’s War Games Headquarters

Last night our group of crazies got together for more Block party planning. Within the inner sanctum of the Cape Ann Business Incubator Lee Bolton runs his operation. It looked like a scene right out of the eighties movie War Games with Matthew Broderick and Alley Sheedy.

Lee is helping us with the huge slide show and video presentation for the Block Party but it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if we find out that this guy is really plotting to take over the world from his command center deep in the bowels of the Cape Ann Business Incubator.
