Dog Bar Mediterranean Plate

I wonder if I could get those guys to make a big enough batch that I could just dive into that hummus and eat my way out.  So Goddamn Good! Dog Bar doesn’t get nearly enough publicity for their food.  They do a fantastic job.DSC04298DSC04299

Chickity Check It! Fellow North Shore Blogger Consortium Member Jane Ward Publishes “The Mosaic Artist”

Jane writes-

Food and Fiction blog followers already know that my latest novel, THE MOSAIC ARTIST, is published and ready to be read.
For other friends, this may be news.  Here is a link to the blog post that describes the journey from idea to manuscript to novel:
http://wp.me/ppXh4-Nv
I’d love for you to pick up a copy, read it, and let me and other readers know what you think.  One advance critical review is in and it is positive: http://wp.me/PpXh4-MP
I’d also be eternally grateful for the faith you have in me and my work if you would pass along the word about THE MOSAIC ARTIST.  Your word-of-mouth recommendation to networks of family, friends and coworkers is powerful.  If you know or belong to a book group, the group might consider reading TMA.  I have spoken to book groups in the past, and would love to do so in the future.
The book is available on line through Amazon (print and Kindle formats): http://www.amazon.com/Mosaic-Artist-Jane-Ward/dp/1453860045/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1303222902&sr=1-1
and through Create Space: https://www.createspace.com/3488870
and, for local folks, through Jabberwocky Bookshop (Newburyport) and Bertram and Oliver Books (Amesbury).  If you live outside the Merrimack Valley area but still prefer to shop in indie book stores, feel free to ask your favorite shop to stock the book.  Ask for it by name, author, and ISBN (9-781453-860045).
I have asked a lot of you, my friends.  In return I offer you my sincerest thanks for your friendship and support.

Easter Bunny Cookies With Sista Felicia at The Gloucester Daily Times Taste of The Times

image

From The GDT:

Felicia Mohan grew up waiting for Easter so she could eat these cookies her grandmother made. After her grandmother retired in Florida and was no longer around for Easter, her Aunt assumed the responsibility and now she has herself. The secret is to use this Italian pastry dough recipe, decorate your own Easter eggs with your kids, make a simple frosting using fresh lemon, and top with brightly colored sprinkles.

Some Type of Healthy Desert At Common Crow

With my horrible memory I forgot what the lady said but you could throw all the greenie terms at it and it probably was what she told me-vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free, I’m not really sure if it was all or some of those things.  Bottom line is it looked delicious and had I not stuffed my gut at Gloria’s minutes before I would have stuffed this down too.

Secret Shopper Gig At Mark McDonough’s Restaurants- Press Release

image

Press Release-

Love Food? Know Food? Win this Contest and Eat Well – FREE
Do you love food?  Do you think you “KNOW” food? Then you could become a secret shopper and eat for free at local restaurants. Serenitee Restaurant group is running a contest to find 20 new secret shoppers to go out to eat and write about their experience.
Serenitee Restaurant Group employs a small army of secret shoppers to constantly monitor the quality of the food and service at its restaurants.  Periodically, new recruits are sought to grow the foodie army and bring fresh new eyes to the focus on service.  With summer approaching, new shoppers are needed to polish up service and skills before the tourist volume pours in.
Secret shoppers are given a $50 gift certificate to go out to dinner with friends to act as a secret restaurant critic.  Taking mental notes on the flavors and points of service, they fill in a two page questionnaire about their experience and email it to Serenitee owner Mark McDonough.  “We are constantly changing our recipes and retraining servers based on feedback from Secret Shopper reports.  It is one of the most important management tools we use to make sure we are giving great food and service.”
And there’s a Grand Prize.  The participant turning in the quiz with the best, most detailed and most accurate answers will also earn a free seat at The Alchemy Bistro May Foodie Dinner on May 5th at 6pm .   This special monthly event is a limited seating extraordinary culinary journey with Chef Jeff Cala.  Attended by culinary artists, food writers and amateur aficionados, and anyone who just loves food, Foodie Night is a guided tour of plate and flight in an intimate and convivial atmosphere. Seating is limited to 16 guests.
Here are a few sample questions from the foodie quiz:

  1. Which popular alcoholic beverage is made from the agave plant?
  2. What type of wines do you pair with cream sauces?
  3. What are your pet peeves around bad service?

To get a 20 question Foodie quiz please text “FOODIE” to 72727 or email owner Mark McDonough with the subject line “FOODIE” to  NorthshoreRestaurantGroup@gmail.com.  For reservations to Foodie Night without taking the quiz, please call Alchemy at 978-281-3997.

Making Italian Donuts With Sista Felicia and Nephew BJ At The Gloucester Daily Times Website

image

From the Gloucester Daily Times Taste of The Times-

These are considered a special treat by Felicia Ciaramitaro Mohan’s family, especially her son BJ, who helps make this recipe. Every Sunday, especially on religious holidays such as Easter Sunday, Grandfather Joe would make these special donuts “for us (seven Grandchildren) on Sunday mornings. This is one of many treats he and my grandmother Felicia would make for Sunday coffee time after Sunday Mass.”
The special ingredient in these homemade donuts is ricotta cheese. It is mixed into the batter and makes for a very moist and tasty round donut, which is rolled into powdered sugar right after frying them in oil.
“My Grandfather passed away when I was in high school. When my twins were born many years later, I remember counting the months till they could have table food so I could make them to enjoy on Sunday mornings and Holiday mornings just as I did growing up.”
“My kids enjoy them just as much as my cousins bother & I did. My daughter Amanda knows how to make the batter, BJ is a professional donut powdered and my husband is defiantly the best at eating them! With our busy schedules traveling with our daughter Amanda for tennis, Sunday mornings as a family are tough to fit in. In spite of this, everyone knows, including my nieces Eloise & Madeline, that when TeTe, Uncle Barry, BJ & Amanda are home on a Sunday donuts are being made while the sauce and meatballs are cooking for our family dinner!”
You may want to try them for a special day such as Easter or at any time you want to make a special treat.

The Rudder Open Today and Launches Whole New Website-

They must have listened to our boy Paul Morrison who has been putting local restaurants on watch to get their sites updated in his “Seasonal Openings” posts which y0u can read here. Local restaurants, if you launch a new website, have something newsworthy happening and feel like sharing it with our readership of 15-22,000 people a day, you might want to pimp your info out just like Peter did in the following email to your boy Joey *hint-hint* in case you haven’t figured out how to contact us with breaking news or photos, there’s a tab up top labeled “Contact” it contains the email address for GMG.  If clicking the tab is too difficult I’ll also provide it for you here so you won’t have any excuse-

goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com

Peter Van Ness Writes-

Dear Joey,

I know you’re a fan of the Rudder on Rocky Neck and I love the video and photo series you did on their renovation, so I thought you’d like to know that they open tomorrow April 14th with Tax Relief Specials like Chapter 7 drinks for $7 (IRS Screwdriver — Vickie’s name), 1040ez Appetizers $10.40 (Agent Crab Cakes) and lots more

(see all of them here http://rudderrestaurant.com/TaxReliefSpecials.pdf)

Also, Vickie and I just launched a new website for them with great photos (check out the attached Monkfish and Cioppino).  The new Web site works great on a mobile phone (I’m almost ready to give up my Blackberry for a Droid … yikes!).

Check it out here: http://rudderrestaurant.com/.

We did a photo shoot there and got to taste some exquisite food.  I’m not kidding, it’s better than ever this year!
