Lorre Anderson Talks Downtown Gloucester and The Block Party

UGHHHHHHHHH! I’M NOT A CAPTAIN!!!!!!
Oy! I just read the caption under the photo in the Cape Ann Beacon from The Block Party the other night which calls me Captain Joe.
I can’t even to begin to tell you how embarrassing it is when that happens.
I’m NOT A CAPTAIN! My Grandfather was Captain Joe Ciaramitaro.
A man whose shoes I could never fill.
I’m not Captain Joe, I’m just Joey. The business name is Captain Joe & Sons after my Grandfather and his two sons- my father and uncle. It’s not me other than the fact that Frank and I bought the business from our fathers which is named Captain Joe and Sons.
Maybe I should have made that the title of my blog “I’m Not a Captain”
I appreciate Mark running the photo though it was a nice shot of one of my shots plastered on the wall during the block party.

Check out all the beautiful flowerboxes lining Main Street. Check out the architecture and character.
This is no vanilla Disney version of what a Main street is supposed to look like, this is the real deal.
This is Gloucester! So next time someone rips on it, tell them to get their head out of their ass and head downtown to our fantastic restaurants, browse the art galleries and shops, sip some great coffee at our community coffee shops and then talk. I’m convinced the ones that rip on it don’t even check out all the great stuff and people that make up our incredible Downtown, otherwise they would be singing it’s praises too.
Up With Gloucester!

Team Can Do
I can’t even express how lucky I feel to have worked with our team on the first ever Downtown Block Party.
Work is a funny word though because not for a second did it feel that way. It was 100% positive energy.
Erika and Dave Hansen, Peter and Vickie Van Ness, Janice, Jackie Hardy, the Council, the performers, the Police, the liquor licensing board, Donna Ardizzoni paying for the banners, Steve Noble and Ringo Tarr for helping with the lights, Cathy Tarr for donating the Downtowngloucester.com domain name, Lee Bolton for providing technical assistance, Ernie Morin with his fantastic slide show.
AMAZING!
You wanna know who else deserves much credit?
The restaurant owners who did everything we asked of them to get the permitting done and make their seating outside cool and funky.
The YMCA Street Team for helping out keep the place clean.
The Folks at seARTS that jumped on board and moved their art exhibits on Center street to coincide with the Block Party. The stores that had cheese and grapes.
The list goes on and on and on, point being that it was all GLOUCESTER PEOPLE pitching in for their own great vibe and giving of and to each other.
It was positive energy put forth from positive people, it was destined to be great from the start.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for everyone that helped out and came down to rediscover how incredible downtown Gloucester with it’s cool coffee shops, incredible restaurants and unique retailers and art scene really is.
I feel like the luckiest guy on earth as I write this.
Erika, Dave, Peter, Vickie, Janice, and Jackie -the team with the positive vision and energy to carry it out, I don’t really know how it became that we all got together for this thing but I would assemble the same team 100 times out of 100 to do it all over again.
Team Can Do, we got ‘er done.

Block Party Comes to Main Street Saturday-The GDT Story

This from The Gloucester Daily Times-
“Block party comes to Main Street Saturday
By Michael Farrell
Staff Writer
Imagine yourself sitting at your favorite Main Street restaurant Saturday night. The food is delicious. The place is clean. The staff is friendly. The service is prompt. There is a distinct difference, though, from the other times that you have eaten on Main Street.”

Things To Do- Cape Ann Brewing Hearing -Aug 12th

The good folks at Cape Ann Brewing will be going for a pouring license Tuesday night August 12th.
From their website-
“NOTICE: A hearing will be held August 12th at 6:30 in the Friends Room of the Sawyer Free Library by the licensing Board to consider our request for a pouring license. We would appreciate any support we can get.”
On the docket the same night is for the ability of the restaurants to serve alchohol outside along with their dining the night of the Block Party.
I feel both are worthy causes to come out and support. I’ll be there in support, I hope you will too.
