Pete Frates’ “Pete’s Park”

“A Place for All”

I was so happy to have been at the Ribbon Cutting for the new Pete’s Park in Beverly this past Friday. The playground that Pete Frates grew up playing on has been rejuvenated and redesigned to be accessible to all and is really amazing. In addition to the Frates family, friends, sponsors, neighbors and more….also in attendance were Mayor Cahill, Governor Baker, Ray Bourke, and the brand new 2018 World Series Trophy.

Quite a line up to celebrate quite a collaboration….and an amazing guy.

This collaboration, in fact, began three years ago and the list of donors, sponsors, volunteers, and those who gave of time and talent is impressive.  From the sports courts in Pete’s Boston College’s Maroon and Gold to the blue fish painted to indicate the accessible paths throughout the park….from the unbelievable basketball hoops to the custom built boat, the Lucy Fitz, this park has it all.  It is truly gorgeous and speaks to how much love exists for Pete and the Frates family while also emphasizing their goal of creating a family friendly space for everyone!

Congratulations to all who worked so hard and gave so much.  You hit it out of the park….as one of the speakers said, “for Pete’s sake.”

Harborlight Montessori, conveniently located in Beverly, is opening their doors to non-enrolled students, Grades 1-8, to join them during their newly designed Experience Weeks.  These weeks are scheduled during February, March, April, and June school vacation weeks to supplement Harborlight’s rich curriculum and provide non-enrolled students opportunities to experience learning with us.

They came from Beverly, Texas, Arizona, Georgia, and Colorado.

Evviva Cucina is a Must Try

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about our fabulous evening at the North Shore Magazine’s Grand Tasting event up in Salisbury.  Of all of the vendors on site, and I assure you that I sampled many, my favorite was Evviva Cucina.

I couldn’t have been happier to learn that they are located in Beverly….mere minutes from my work.  And, since my co-workers and I are always looking for a good place to unwind after a long (or short) work week, I have a feeling we’ll be visiting somewhat often.

Evviva Cucina is located at 45 Enon Street in Beverly….as well as their Westford, MA location.  Their “Italian Inspired, American Made” Food to Cheer combines fresh ingredients, robust flavor, and a fair amount of flare…and is as beautiful as it is delicious.

Speaking of beautiful!  Look at their space!  Not only is the inside funky and fun…but the outdoor eating and corn hole makes it a destination…not just a restaurant.  Grab some friends and your appetite….and share some laughs, eats, and drinks!

Beverly hosts a regional Massachusetts Cultural Council cultural districts gathering at The Cabot

The City of Beverly and The Cabot hosted a Massachusetts Cultural Council north shore cultural district meeting today. The theater was getting ready for tonight’s sold out Celtic Sojourn with Brian O’Donovan and they still made time for the districts. Mayor Cahill welcomed the group. The current exhibition installed in this sunny space is a solo show by fine artist and commercial sign maker, Andrew Bablo.

Cultural districts and organizations coming together for this meeting included the following: Beverly Main Streets and the BAD district; Montserrat College of Art; Chris Sicuranza, Gloucester’s Director of Communications & Constituent Services,Office of the Mayor; the two Gloucester cultural districts, and local cultural council; Rockport’s cultural district; Essex Historic Society and Shipbuilding Museum  and district; Historic New England and Cogswell’s Grant; Lynn’s district; Haverhill’s; and Concord’s. Concord will be hosting their regional meeting tomorrow. Currently there are 35 cultural districts across Massachusetts with 40 possible by the end of June. Pure Pastry is Pure Perfection

Last week a co-worker arrived in the office with an amazing assortment of gorgeous treats from Pure Pastry in Beverly to share with the faculty and staff.

While delicious almost doesn’t do them justice, let’s back up a bit for a second to the presentation. I’m all about packaging….all about nice little touches…all about made with care. Kim Gregory goes over the top, in a very sustainable, green, and organic way, to make receiving her pastries feel like opening a gift.  And, a gift they are!  While almost impossible to choose….the two selections that I made were to die for. Truly, perfectly, delicious.

I look forward to finding a reason to order…or maybe even ordering for no real reason at all.

On Saturday you may have heard the rumble of engines in the sky over Gloucester and looked up to see an astonishing sight: a vintage World War Two bomber or fighter plane cruising overhead. The planes are owned by the Collings Foundation in Stow, MA, and every year as part of the “Wings of Freedom” tour they fly into Beverly Airport for a weekend. The tour, which includes a B-17G Flying Fortress bomber, B-24J Liberator bomber, B-25 Mitchell bomber, and a P-51 Mustang, will be at the airport on Sunday from 10:00 am until 4:30 pm. You can even pay to ride in one as they cruise from Beverly to Gloucester and back. For more information, visit the Collings Foundation.

Have You Been to the Barrel House?

So good.

The Barrel House is on Cabot Street in Beverly…and totally worth the trip.  I’ve been a couple of times, but keep forgetting to write about it.  But, after having gone back last Friday afternoon, there was no way I was going to forget again.

First of all, the ambience is my kind of perfect.  Dark, lots of brick, leather, an amazing tin ceiling, reclaimed wood…all gorgeous.

Secondly, any place that serves oysters and Almond Butter Brie Fondue is right in my world.

Third, the bar can’t be beat and my Moscow Mule was super yummy.

We had some oysters, the Mac & Cheese (smoked gouda, fontina, pecorino, herbed panko crust), the Brie Fondue, and….because why not….the Fried Dough Wrapped “Twinky” ….complete with chocolate hazelnut sauce and ice cream.
