We’ve noticed a number of live music benefits/fundraisers lately with a couple tonight (see complete live music schedule here).  It’s nice to see people coming out, having a good time and supporting a good cause.  One of the things we like about living here (despite the recent cold weather).

Here’s a taste of what you can expect on Friday, February 8 @ the Larcom Theatre

Music tips for this weekend that you might not know about

Chelsea Berry will be Aurelia Nelson’s featured guest on her North Shore 104.9 show Curtain Up this Sunday, Jan 20, at 9am.  You don’t even have to get out of bed.  Just tune your clock radio to 104.9 and set it to go off at 8:59am.  Lie in bed and listen comfortably.

If you saw Jon Butcher on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes, you’ll know he’s playing at Shalin Liu tonight with James Montgomery, Charlie Farren & David Hull.  As of this post there were about 15 tickets left and you can get them here.  Jon may ask Allen to join him on a song they performed together on the Local Music Seen.

Another good bet for tonight is Renee & Joe @ Minglewood Tavern.  Here they are at Latitude 43 for the November Berklee in Gloucester show:

As for the rest of the weekend, we honestly don’t have any idea how you’re going to choose from over 2 dozen excellent shows — and plenty of them early enough to take the kids.  Here’s the complete live music lineup.

GOOD LUCK!

BREAKING NEWS: North Shore 104.9 launches new FM signal tomorrow to reach a million more people

#BOOM you heard it on GMG first!  This just in from Aurelia Nelson at North Shore 104.9.  Congrats to all at the station!

New FM Radio Signal In Boston Radio Market

Upgraded FM Signal to cover over 1 million more people inside the Boston Radio Market

Beverly, MA, January 9, 2013: WBOQ 104.9 FM announces the upgrade of WBOQ FM radio licensed to Gloucester, MA. WBOQ has moved its main transmitter site 11 miles West of the former transmitter site trading 11 miles of Atlantic Ocean coverage for 11 miles plus coverage of densely populated geography in the suburbs of Boston located in Essex and Middlesex counties and into Southern New Hampshire.

The move in project has been years in the making with federal approval from the FCC and FAA and local zoning approvals. WBOQ will launch the new station with all new state of the art antenna and transmitter equipment.

The stations move may not be its last as the station still has the ability for another upgrade with approval from the FCC and cooperation of another New England broadcaster that would give WBOQ one of the largest FM signals in the Boston radio market.

Station President and Owner, Todd Tanger, commented, “We are excited to turn on our new signal on Thursday January 10th as we continue to serve the North Shore of Boston and beyond. “ WBOQ is one of the last privately held FM radio stations in the country. Tanger also said, “ We have always taken pride in our opportunity to provide great music, information, and free public service announcements to our neighbors and friends.”

WBOQ FM’s signal will now reach a potential 2.4 million people in the Boston Radio Market.

WBOQ has been called North Shore 104.9 since 2003.

WBOQ FM has been home of the Red Sox Radio on the FM dial since 2006.

The Boston Radio market is the 10th ranked radio market in the United States.

I wish I could fly

I wish I could fly.  That’s the title of a gorgeous Christmas song by Fly Amero & Allen Estes (Fly gets top billing — it’s not called I wish I could Allen).

Fly Amero (L) with Allen Estes (R)

You can hear this song on Aurelia Nelson’s show Curtain Up on North Shore 104.9 FM Tomorrow (Sunday, Dec 23) at 9am.  You’ll also hear a beauty by Aaron Neville.  If you were lucky, you saw Aaron Neville at North Shore Music Theatre in August with Henri Smith opening.

And tonight you’ve got excellent live music choices in all four Cape Ann towns.  See the live music lineup here.
