North Coast Angler Fishing Report 6/21/13

Fishing Report: 6-21-2013

The overall fishing over the past week has been one of "transition", from very good at the beginning of the week to just fair from mid week on. That’s not to say that "all" locations from Cape Ann to the Merrimack River were off, but Joppa Flat was affected negatively by the heavy rainfall and the stripers that were up on the flat moved to cleaner water outside at the river mouth and along the beaches north and south. We had a very good day Monday fishing flies , topwaters and soft plastics just outside the river mouth. The river mouth was again super clogged with all sort of boats drifting, trolling or anchored up and catching stripers with live macks, clams or chunks, a very scary place!Later in the week I had the good fortune to fish with Capt Paul Rogato and we got to fish a few of his new 2013 line up of surface plugs. These new plugs were a blast to fish with as the stripers would track and smack the plug until they owned it! Watch the video. These plugs are available at Fin & Feather, Surfland and First Light Anglers.

2013 International Dory Races Set For Saturday June 22nd, 10 AM

image

After some exciting elimination races last week the stage is  set for Gloucester to host our Canadian challengers in the 61st annual International Dory Races.  This is an exciting week for dory racing enthusiasts, dory committee members, and the general public to witness tradition, skill and athleticism wrapped up in the friendly competition of dory racing between 2 nations.  Saturday’s festivities will start with a pancake breakfast at 8AM followed by the dory races at 10AM.  Competitors from Nova Scotia , Canada will come to Gloucester to compete in 5 divisions of 2 person team dory racing:  Juniors (18 & under), Mixed Doubles, Women, Men Over 40, and Men Open.  This is a great family event unique to Gloucester and Lunenburg NS that shouldn’t be missed.  The 2013 IDRC Races will be dedicated to 3 members who recently passed away.  Robert “Woody” Greeke, Fred Purdy Jr., and George Dearborn were all involved in the IDRC in different ways, but shared a passion for dory rowing that will live on in dory rowers for years to come.

Please find attached a schedule of events for the upcoming week.  I hope all of our members and friends will make every effort to attend this week!  Those who would like to volunteer to help out Gina Lampasi with the Awards Banquet, please email ginarow@gmail.com .

Special Events:

Farmer’s Market Community Picnic, Thursday, August 22 at 6 p.m. A chance for market goers to relax and socialize after the market closes. Shop for the picnic, or bring it from home. Stage Fort Park facilities include a number of grills. Entertainment includes live music by Happy Accidents and the popular Seafood Throwdown.

Vendors:

The 2013 Cape Ann Farmer’s Market will host more vendors than ever, 75 over the season, with 50 at any given market, making the market one of the largest in Massachusetts. Vendors are held to high standards, conforming to statewide farmer’s market guidelines and are all local. Along with an extensive array of fresh farm produce through-out the season, vendors will be selling baked goods, including gluten-free goodies and Lebanese flat bread, potted plants, herbs, gelato, fresh pasta, fish from Fisherman’s Wharf Seafood, local wines, roasted nuts, homemade cheese, and small-batch condiments. Back Yard Growers will be selling produce, eggs, and cut flowers. Prepared food for taking home or dining at the park include guacamole made on-site, tacos, burritos, lobster and crab rolls, grilled chicken and pulled pork, fresh homemade pizza, and savory and sweet tarts. Craft tents will offer organic soap, hand-made jewelry, pottery, hand-printed clothing, and art made from recycled materials. A complete list of vendors and weekly schedules may be found on www.capeannfarmersmarket.org.

The Farmers Market is at Stage Fort Park, overlooking beautiful Gloucester Harbor, through the courtesy of the City of Gloucester. Parking fees will be suspended during market hours, so plentiful free and ample parking will be available to shoppers. A CATA bus will run from the Rose Baker Center on Rogers Street to Stage Fort Park by reservation.

The Cape Ann Farmers Market is an independent non-profit, mission-based organization, started by and for the community of Cape Ann. It is funded by vendor fees, memberships, donations and grants. Cape Ann Farmers Market sponsors a used cookbook and garden book table, and will be selling tote bags, aprons, t-shirts and memberships, which include discounts at local restaurants and specialty stores every week to help offset the costs of running the market.

The Cape Ann Farmers Market accepts WIC coupons, Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Coupons, and SNAP/EBT, expanding its mission to bring healthy food to the entire community.

Other:  The Cape Ann Farmer’s Market includes a wellness tent where shoppers can relax with a therapeutic massage, and an education tent where local non-profits promote their organizations and services. Children’s activities are organized by Art Haven every week at 4:15 under the children’s tent. Stage Fort Park has a playground to entertain children while parents shop, and grills are available so families can stay for a picnic dinner or a concert at the bandshell.

Talent: Instead of piped-in supermarket Muzak, area musicians provide an original background soundtrack for shopping. Performances are during market hours, from 3:30 to 6:30, and feature sea shanties, folk, bluegrass, blues, jazz, and world music over the course of the summer.

Snoop Maddie Mad Is 250th Percentile For Loving Soccer

Running joke in our house is that our kids are 250th percentile at this or that.  A joke making fun of obnoxious parents that claim their kids are this percentile or that percentile at some skill set.  You’re only supposed to be able to go up to 100% but I like to say back to those folks when they say their kid is 85th percentile at something that my kid is 250th percentile and stare back at the quizzical looks on their faces.

Snoop Mad is 250th percentile at loving soccer.  And that’s a higher percentile than your kid.  Deal with it.

The whole paying attention during practice part maybe negative 250th percentile.  Like when she was tending the net as the goalie and giving me the thumbs up on the sidelines when another six year old drilled a shot right past her for a goal.  Oopsies.

and would you look at those rags we’ve got her in?  She looks like a homeless soccer kid. Her parents get a negative 300th percentile for rolling their kid out in that get-up. Need to go to the sporting goods store stat and pick up some umbro soccer shorts.
