Updated: Today’s Tennis Bags Are Large Enough To Smuggle Illegal Aliens

I grew up playing tennis.  Played at least 5 days a week from the age of 7-18.  Never had more than one tennis racket,  never had a tennis bag.  I had a racket cover that zippered around the head of the tennis racket.

I see kids running around today with tennis racket bags that take up at least 50% of their body mass.  It’s insane. No clue what they could possibly be carrying around in there.

A couple tennis rackets, books, ipads, laptops, lunch, sweat suit, a midget or two, a couple of little people, some goats for milking and some extra room left over to use as a tent

Sailor Stan’s – A Very Cool Place for Breakfast

sailor stans

In case you didn’t know, Sailor Stan’s is open for breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings from 7:30 until 11:30-12:00.  As season starts coming in, they will be open more mornings.  Sailor Stan’s is one of the coolest most colorful artsy spots on Cape Ann, which always reminds me of Key West.  Karen and Wayne are the nicest people, and will cook you a special breakfast treat.  Wayne has a great display of his bold paintings on display, so your eyes as well as your mouth will be busy.

By Golly I Believe I’ve Figured Out A Way To Get Heroin Addicts Off The Junk and It’s Called Bacon Marmalade

2013-03-21 13.20.29

As you may know Passports Restaurant is nominated for the best Burger in North Shore Magazine’s BONS Awards.  You can vote for them here

Jeremy at Passports has developed a drug so powerful I’m fairly confident that it can be used to wean addicts off of heroin.   It’s called Bacon Marmalade.

2013-03-21 13.31.54

Bacon Freakin’ Marmalade.

So here’s what you gotta do-

You sit the addict down at a table and you offer them a teeny tiny taste of one of the Bacon Marmalade burgers at Passports.  Then you give them two options-

Option A) Finish off the Bacon Marmalade Burger

Option B) Heroin.

I’m certain that once the addict tries the Bacon Marmalade Burger they’ll opt for the burger a hundred times out of a hundred.

Walking the straight and narrow (the “boardwalk”, apparently – but made of stone….)

We ended up taking the road less traveled (barely visible in this photo)

Are you new to the Gloucester area, interested in the arts, retired or finding yourself looking to become part of a wonderful, welcoming community, or just looking to help because it feels good to do so?

The Rocky Neck Art Colony is a fun, friendly and open organization. We are one of the oldest art colonies in America, located in East Gloucester, and we are looking for volunteers to help with many areas in our organization. Do you have a skill you’d like to share, would you like to help in an ongoing basis or for a particular event? We are experiencing tremendous growth and change as we enter the 2013 summer season.  Our most recent project is The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck which is a year round gallery space that offers art and non art related programming, including lectures, demonstrations, classes, performances and hosts private and public events.

Investigators Conclude Gloucester Fatal Fire Accidental

Investigators Conclude Gloucester Fatal Fire Accidental

State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan and Gloucester Fire Chief Eric L. Smith said the January 26, 2013 fire at 4 Windsor Lane, Gloucester, that took the life of 55-year old Kim Anderson, has been determined to be accidental. The victim died of smoke inhalation and burns according to the Medical Examiner’s Office. The fire originated in the living room of the one-story, one-family home.

State Fire Marshal Coan said, “The investigative team has narrowed down the possible causes to improper disposal of smoking materials, combustibles too close to the baseboard heaters or an electrical malfunction of the baseboard heater behind the couch, but have ruled out arson as a possible cause.”

Gloucester Fire Chief Smith said, “We just recently changed our clocks which is a great time for each of us to check all our detectors to make sure they are working. Working smoke alarms are your first line of defense in a fire, giving you precious moments to use your home escape plan.”

Coan said, “Many people incorrectly think that they will wake up to the smell of smoke, when in fact studies have shown you will not, and the toxic smoke from a fire will put you into a deeper sleep.” Investigators could find no evidence of working smoke alarms in the home.

This fire was jointly investigated by the Gloucester Fire Department, the Gloucester Police Department, State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal and to the Office of the Essex District Attorney’s Office. Assistance was received from the electrical inspector and from the Code Compliance and Enforcement Unit in the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Tenzin Gyatso Quote of The Week From Greg Bover

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.

Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama (1935 –     )

A native of Amdo, in the disputed province of Qinghai, the Dalai Lama was chosen as the incarnation of the previous title holder when he was two. He began his monastic training at six and was awarded the highest level Buddhist degree at 23. From the age of 15 he headed theocratic Tibet, which was being subsumed into China first by the Nationalists and later by the People’s Republic. At the beginning of the Tibetan Uprising of 1959 he led 80,000 refugees to India to establish a government-in-exile. He has traveled widely in the West and garnered international support for an independent Tibet while receiving honors from several countries culminating in his 1989 Nobel Peace Prize. His simple message and support of ecumenism has endeared him to the members of many faiths. He is the longest incumbent Dalai Lama in history.
