Dear Joey,
If you would, please assist us get the word out regarding our Open House on Saturday, October 19th.  Also attached is a picture you might use, if appropriate and of acceptable quality.  It shows some of the historical items which are mentioned in the article.

Floor1

The Tyrian-Ashler-Acacia Masonic Lodge located at 27 Eastern Avenue in Gloucester will be holding an Open House event on Saturday October 19th from 9am through 3pm. Very many curios and local historical items pertaining to the Lodge will be available for public viewing. Local Freemasons obtained a Charter from the Grand Lodge in Edinburgh Scotland in 1770 to enable them to work as a regular and recognized Masonic System as it was at that time. A copy of the original Charter, recognized by Paul Revere and with his signature will be available for public viewing. The Lodge in Gloucester is one of the oldest continuously operating Masonic Lodges in the United States and now functions under the umbrella of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts located at 186, Tremont Street, Boston, which claims the distinction of being the third oldest Grand Lodge in the world. The Fraternity, which attempts in Rituals to balance an understanding of Science and Spirituality, is known worldwide for its Charitable and Philanthropic endeavors. Some recent estimates claim the Freemasons distribute many millions of dollars on a regular basis to scholarships, hospitals for children, burns hospitals, eye and sight foundations. More information can be discovered at the website for the Lodge at www.tyrianashleracacia.net

Hi Joey-

I wanted to let everyone know that the installation of the Compass Rose sculpture (pictured here with the Sculptor himself, Mark Read) is complete. It is located at the front of Maritime Gloucester and is a beautiful sight to behold, especially at night when it is lit!

Manchester Essex Varsity Soccer Columbus Day

The Hornets played the Lynnfield Pioneers to a 0-0 tie at Hyland Field in Manchester Monday October 14, 2013.  Lots of chances with one incredible shot bouncing off the crossbar, the ground and a few other things but not getting in the net!

Bittersweet

grand finale mug up 2013

We had a wonderful grand finale Mug Up at Khan Studio and the GMG Gallery on Sunday. The weather was perfect, and fun was had by all, from the youngest to the oldest.   As always, there was plenty of good stuff to eat, but the definite showstopper was Sister Felicia’s cranberry orange tort – scrumptous!

It was a little bittersweet.  Season has ended, the gallery is closed, and winter is around the corner.  But don’t fear, there will be more Mug Up fun over the winter as hosts James Eves at Cape Ann Giclee, Fred Bodin, Donna Ardizonni and others take up the mantle and keep the tradition alive through the dark, cold winter months.   Maybe Joey will even have another one at the dock!

Representing from Cincinnati, Ohio

Two very fun folks. On the left is Heather Chalk, who works at the Mt. Adams Bar & Grill, which was the first bar in Ohio to obtain a liquor license in Ohio after Prohibition. The establishment has a very interesting history: http://www.mtadamsbarandgrill.com/history_bg.htm. On the right is is Ed Gollar, also of Cincinnati, who manages a company, and ironically sells a keychain device, which will measure your blood/alcohol content. You can see it at breathkey.com. Do you think they met in the bar?

Early that same morning I had taken Rosie for her morning walk. The sunlight streaming sideways through the fog shrouded trees was gorgeous and our hood had a new look for the day; the North Shore Art Association had become Crosby Lyons Club and the parking lot was filled with vintage cars from the 1970s and 1980s .

Nichole Scrafft Has Some Nice Things To Say

Hi Joey,
What would we do without Good Morning Gloucester?  I took my mother and my boys to watch the Manchester-By-The-Sea Cardboard Boat Regatta today (SOO fun btw!!) and then went to the Studio in Rocky Neck with a friend this evening for a couple of drinks.  I am 100% certain I would not have known to do either if it weren’t for Good Morning Gloucester!!  Thanks for all you and your contributors do to help keep us informed…and amused!!!  Now, if you could only make the Sox win.
Sincerely,
Nichole

Reminder: “The Pollinator Garden” at the Beverly Public Library

On Tuesday evening, October 15th, at 7 pm, I will be giving my program, “The Pollinator Garden,” at the Beverly Public Library. Following the rhythm of the seasons, I present a slide show (with over 100 photos!) and lecture demonstrating how to create a welcoming haven for bees, birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. Native plants and examples of organic and architectural features will be discussed based on their value to particular vertebrates and invertebrates. I hope you’ll come join me!
