Get Outta Town!
Whenever I hear a ruckus of crows, I always look for a hawk. This hawk looked uneasy while being harassed by three crows as he perched in this tree. He finally had enough and flew off, with them in close pursuit. Afterwards, two of the crows were heard boasting about how bad they were to run that no good hawk outta town.

“I play better when the crowd likes it” ~ Johnny Winter. Listen to the interview now!

Earlier this afternoon I interviewed Johnny Winter and Paul Nelson, who is Jonny’s manager, producer of his latest album, “Roots” (which I highly recommend) along with his upcoming album “Step Back”, due out in April — and he plays guitar in Johnny’s band.
Johnny and Paul talk about their influences, the Blues, sound, performing, recording … Johnny even tells us how he practiced screaming when he was young. Plus they give us a feel for just how hot this upcoming show on Jan 31 will be.
Thanks to everyone who submitted questions in yesterday’s post. Johnny answered questions by Ricardo Fernandez and Tom Hauck in this interview. Listen below:
There are still a few tickets left to see the great Johnny Winter at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre on Friday, Jan 31. This show will sell out, so if you want to go, get tickets here.

Gloucester Rotary – Polar Plunge Feb 1, 2014
On February 1, 2014 I’ll be joined by hundreds of other Rotarians from District #7930 at the Cape Ann Motor Inn (Beautiful rooms available at reasonable rates! – ask Brad!) to jump in the frigid Atlantic off Long Beach to help eradicate Polio worldwide. India was just officially declared “Polio free” a couple days ago, we just have 3 countries remaining!
Polio cases have declined rapidly since 1985, but the fight isn’t over. Polio is a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease, and for as little as $0.60, a child can be protected against the virus for life. If we don’t finish the fight right now, more than 10 million children under the age of five could be paralyzed by polio in the next 40 years.
No amount is too small – hoping the “GMG Universe” will help me reach my personal goal of $5000!

Gull identification link from good pal Steve Borichevsky
Hi Joey,
Because I lived on The Fort for six years, I’ve seen a few gulls in my day. Depending on the species, gulls have up to four plumage types as they mature, plus they change from breeding plumage to winter plumage as adults.
This causes many people to throw up their hands is discuss when trying to identify the birds they are seeing. I even get comments from seasoned birders and twitchers that they get confused. With this in mind, I have posted many gull tips over the past few years in hopes that it will help those of us on Cape Ann and also the many, many birders that come here in the winter to find them. Gloucester has some pretty cool birds here in the winter that many inlanders just don’t get to see.

Decadent Desserts!
I am planning to sign up for Chef Matt’s “Decadent Desserts” cooking class. I’ve never taken a cooking class before, but based on how much I learned and truly enjoyed Savour’s “Become a Wine Expert” series, I know it will be tons of fun. Besides, I tried making Apple Tarte Tartin from the original 1800s recipe (not successful) and would love to have Chef Matt’s recipe!!
P.S. It’s not that I am obsessed with Apple Tarte Tartin, the thing is, that at the end of the summer when our peaches and pears ripen, I would love to make Peach and Pear Tarte Tartins!
