Each evening during the opening prayer service Rosie Verga, talks about the Children, and how important it is to bring the younger generation to the St. Peter Novena.  Rosies words are so very true.  Our children are the future of the Feast of St. Peter, and of all our deep rooted Sicilian Traditions.  It is vital to the tradition they we expose them and keep them involved.  Last night two little blessings, Dante Linquata and Phoenix Curcuru entertained us with their dancing and sweet voices of laughter as they played together during the rosary.

Africa 01966 USA Revisited

Last fall, Janet and I found a small private park populated by amazing African animal sculptures. I loved that place. Over months of hospitalization recovering from cancer related disabilities, I often thought of seeing "my" special animals again. Today I did, and on foot – I walked 1/2 mile up Phillips Avenue and home again using my rollator (a hybrid walker with four wheels http://whatisarollator.com/) under the watchful eyes of Janet. Not much of a hike for most people, but a milestone for me. I rested for a moment while removing my camera from the bag under the rollator seat and to shoot this photo. Events similar to this happen often, and the satisfaction they impart encourage one to continue down the path to better health.

Last Summer at Art Haven Summer Programs:

Miss us last summer?

Last year’s nine weeks of summer programs were a huge success.
Our “Summer Passport Program” allowed students to explore the cultures of Mexico, Italy, Kenya, Greece, France, Tahiti, and China, and our partnership with Maritime Gloucester got them learning about culture a little closer to home.
Over the course of the summer we worked with 64 kids, and were able to provide scholarship money for 27 of them – that’s 42%!
We are grateful to our students, their families, and the generous donors who make our programs possible.
Looking forward to summer 2014!

Take advantage of the fun and creative space that Art Haven creates each summer for kids entering grades 1-5!

Our programs run from 9-1 and promote creativity and confidence through hands on learning and collaboration with talented local artists and fun, energetic summer staff.

Your kids can enjoy a reasonably priced summer program that gives flexibility through weekly sign ups. A healthy lunch is provided daily by The Open Door and Project Bread. Take advantage of our flexible pick up time from 1 pm-3 pm while your kids further explore their talents with the skills they learned earlier in the day!

Our summer staff will ensure that each moment is special and that new friendships are made so your child will have a summer adventure they will never forget!

Hi Joey
While on my walk this am I noticed that the cans at Stage Fort have been painted this beautiful color and have these large anchors painted on them. Each anchor has a different hand painted pattern. I love them and would love to be able to let them know how much I love them and thank them for this gift of time. Could you post so that maybe I can find out who these community art angels are.

HarborWalk Butterfly Gardens Sunday MugUp at 9am

Dear Friends of the HarborWalk,

I couldn’t decide if the title should read “Help with the HarborWalk” or “HarborWalk MugUp” and as you can see, opted for the MugUp, but we do need help, too. Several beds need weeding and I have a modest batch of annuals we’d like to get in the ground, just as soon as possible. The goal is to whip the butterfly gardens into shape before Fiesta. If you are interested in lending a hand, please send me an email at kimsmithdesigns@hotmail.com or leave a comment in the the comment section so we can get an idea of how many fabulous homemade Brother’s Brew doughnuts I should purchase! We are meeting at 9am Sunday in front of the Gloucester House Restaurant. We will have some spare tools and please feel free to bring your own. You don’t need to be a gardener and kids are 100 percent welcome.Thank you.

Very best wishes,
Kim

While weeding yesterday morning, there were several species of small butterflies flitting about, including a number of Spring Azures. Lots of bees were spied, too. The native Magnolia virginiana and sweet thimbleweeds are in bloom and and a good bunch of Purple Prairie Clover is becoming established. Stop by and take the opportunity to learn about some of our native beauties planted at the HarborWalk.

Video: Gloucester High School Pre-School from Lisa Smith and Becky Tober

Hi Kim,

Becky Tober and I made this video for the Gloucester High School Pre-School. It is a great educational program for pre-school children as well as for the High School students as they get practical hand-on experience as teachers in this early childhood education program.

BTW, Becky and I had fun with the new DSLR camera, zoom recorder, and lights!
