Bank Gloucester’s Banking For The Community program is bigger than ever this year. You get to vote ON-LINE (right here) for an organization to to win up to $5K! Now, there are some excellent organizations on the list, but you can also check a box labeled “Other” and write one in yourself. That’s what I did. I voted for the Harbor Loop Concerts. “Why?” Well, for a number of reasons this 30-year-old tradition almost fizzled this summer. But due to the tireless efforts of organizer Bradley Royds, with a little help from Mayor Kirk and others at City Hall, they pulled it off — barely — and it was a wonderful summer of free music at Harbor Loop enjoyed by thousands of residents and visitors. I’d like to see this concert series secure for next year and what better way than by awarding it the top Bank Gloucester prize. Improv or Stand Up…You Choose
You know what I don’t do nearly enough? Go to comedy shows.
Every few years a few of us get together and make plans to take in a show….and then, inevitably I find myself wondering, “Why don’t I do this more often?”
Who doesn’t need a good, honest, unbridled laugh every so often?
Last week I did just that. I laughed, and laughed, and laughed.
Somehow, a year has gone by since my friends opened Laugh Boston and, on the club’s 1st anniversary, it was finally time to cross it off this year’s bucket list. I am so glad that I did! The comedians were, well, hysterical and the club itself is, dare I say, the perfect combination of industrial yet cozy. Its fantastic location within the Westin Waterfront in Boston’s Seaport district doesn’t hurt either. Nor does its full bar and “light fare” menu.
Laugh Boston is, as they say, “the stand-up brother to the Improv Asylum, Boston’s improv & sketch comedy theater located in the North End.”
If you haven’t been there either….you are totally missing out. In contrast to Stand Up comedy, the Improv Asylum features incredibly quick-witted improvisation and sketch comedy. Which, in my humble opinion, takes a true artist to pull off. They can boast to over 10,000 shows since its opening in 1998.
So, dinner and drinks in the North End and then a riot of an evening at the club. Or, a trip to the Seaport District, tons of laughs at the stand up club, and maybe even a quick overnight stay at the Westin? With summer coming to an end, that’s two good excuses to get over not only the A. Piatt Andrew, but also, the Tobin Bridges!

What’s Happening at GHS
We have just completed our second week of school and things appear to be settling in. Thanks to all of our parents who attended the “Meet the Teacher Night” last Thursday evening.
School Picture Day will be Wednesday September 17, and we look forward to some new and updated pictures.
For all Seniors, the regular registration deadline for the October 11 SAT was September 12, 2014, but the late registration is available until September 30. The Guidance Counselors will begin meeting with all of their seniors to follow up on their progress with applications and college visits next week. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your child’s guidance counselor for more specific information.

The PSAT’s will be offered at GHS on October 15, 2014 for all Juniors and any Sophomores who may be interested. This practice opportunity for the SAT’s is a wonderful time to begin thinking about the entire college application and acceptance process. To register for the PSAT, a payment of $20 (cash only) may be deposited with Mrs. Mondello before school, during lunch or after school.

After 9 months and 50,000 shots (only using 5.000 for the final video), my first flowers timelapse has finished. After a long work looking for flowers that would open fast, here is a list of the flowers that have been part of the timelapse: Lillium, hibiscus, carnations, orchids, dandelions, lilies, daisies, alstroemeria, peonies and nigella damask.

I See Moolongz Book Launch Party and Spontaneous Collaboration Art Exhibit
Whether you see Moolongz or not, whether you believe in Moolongz or not, whether you wish Moolongz had never appeared or are happy they did, they are here and you are all invited to the I See Moolongz book launch party on Saturday, September 27th from 4-6:00pm at the Rocky Neck Cultural Center, 6 Wonson Street.
During the book launch party, there will be an exhibit of an amazing collaboration series of five paintings by five artists in five weeks. The artists involved in the collaboration are Sue Handman (fabric artist), Brenda Malloy (abstract painter), Diana Pasquariello (watercolor painter), Regina Piantedosi (non-representational art) and E.J. Lefavour (photographer, painter, digital artist). In the true spirit of creativity, sharing and inspiration that the Rocky Neck Art Colony embodies, these five distinctly unique and different artists have come together to collaborate and share in the process of jointly creating five pieces of art. The experience has been one of learning, teaching, sharing, trust and letting go of the ego’s involvement in the creative process, and has resulted in five completely unique, never in a lifetime to come anywhere near being recreated again, pieces of art. If you are an artist or understand the creative process, you will appreciate how rare and unique an undertaking like this is. Please come by and check out our “Spontaneous Collaboration”.
After this brief exhibit at the Cultural Center, one of the pieces will be on exhibit in each of the five artists’ galleries for the remainder of the season.
