GMG Tech Talk- Wireless router recommendations

The wireless router at my mom’s house and sisters house quite simply- stink.  Constantly dropping signal and resetting.

Has anyone upgraded their wireless router and did it make a noticeable difference?

From the very little research I’ve done the newest routers are capable of doing way more throughput than ones available just a couple years ago.

What are your best bang-for-your buck home computer upgrade suggestions?  ram is always cheap, better wireless router, cheap plug and play speakers with subwoofers?

One of the cheapest and best upgrades I did probably over 10 years ago was a sub $50 Cambridge Soundworks speaker upgrade.  Two tiny speakers which sit on either side of my monitor and a subwoofer that sits under my desk.  Literally plug in two wires and the wall outlet and the sound from my desktop PC is at least 10 times better than what you get from a monitor that might have a couple small tinny speakers built in.

Share if you will your experiences with wireless routers or other computer peripherals that dollar for dollar made your system much better.

Amaryllis Lemon Lime

Lemon Lime Amaryllis -- ©Kim Smith 2014Amaryllis Lemon Lime

I’ve never met an amaryllis I didn’t love and ‘Lemon Lime’ is no exception. The flowers are slightly smaller than many cultivars, compared to that of ‘Orange Sovereign’ for example, however, the plant often sends up two and three stalks at the same time. The exquisite pale chartreuse complements nearly every color scheme imaginable and is wonderfully fresh and spring-like to help stave away those dreary drab winter-hued blues.

Easter Island Video

Here is the first video of our recent adventure in South America. The trip was run by Overseas Adventure Travel (Boston).

After flying from Boston to Miami to Santiago, we hopped 2.300 miles over the Pacific to Easter Island. Best known for its massive sculpted heads (moai) created between 1200 AD and 1600 AD, the island is an enchanting place. It is heaven for archaeologists, anthropologists and geologists.

Sargent House Museum Fundraising

Exciting news! We’re over a third of the way to our goal of the $15,000 needed to present unique programming and preserve the House for future generations.
Thanks to those who’ve already generously donated!
But, if you have not yet given, we still need your help.

Your contributions support…

  • Expanding educational programs and internships for students and adults
  • Outreach to increase tour attendance at the Museum
  • Digitizing our database of museum objects and photographs
  • On-going preservation and restoration of a glorious 18th-century home

Please give generously so that these exciting projects can continue.

Thank you!
