Hi Joey,
Thanks for posting my rabbit dilemma. Your readers were generous with their suggestions.
Have you been by Good Harbor beach parking lot? Hard to imagine someone hasn’t sent you pictures – I may have missed it. It looks like the moon. I couldn’t resist pulling over today to catch this guy climbing the mountain of snow that is very very slowly melting. Good luck with opening the lot by March 31…

Live at the corner of Grapvine & Atlantic Road… some drivers are passing through the huge puddle… I’m playing it safe and turning around! Someone call the DPW STAT!
He has undergone a second surgery to repair damages and is still in critical condition. He needs more surgery tomorrow; it will be his third one.
Throughout this horrific ordeal it would benefit Dan to receive the support of his community and beyond. His mother reads to him messages from Facebook and although he is intubated, unable to speak, he is able to let her know he likes hearing the messages.
Let us each send a message to Dan showing our support and a willingness to pray that he heals, gets strong and comes home soon.
Permission is granted to circulate by his Aunt Tina Russell. God Bless Dan Cary, his family and all of you for taking the time to read this and respond to one of our soldiers.
If you have any questions or want more detail, and there is much detail, contact Tina Russell via Facebook. Thank you for considering posting this…we want as much support as possible for our native son.

The American Eagle Has Been Completely Restored Meticulously And Can Actually Take Paying Passengers
(No slight to the well intentioned and passionate people who have donated millions upon millions to the restoration of The Schooner Adventure) It’s going to be awesome once The Gloucester’s Big Dig Adventure gets sailing but in the meantime you can get the last Gloucester built fishing schooner which is a proven turn key sail operation.
Thanks Anthony Marks for submitting-
Here’s the link to the listing- http://www.davidjonesclassics.com/sail/3464/american-eagle-92-gloucester-fishing-schooner-750000/
When I knew the American Eagle she was offloading whiting here at our dock- Captain Joe and Sons and she looked like she did in this first picture-
Frankie and I would nail the wooden box covers on the boxes of whiting to be shipped to New York’s Fulton Fish Market. If you would have told me back then that The American Eagle would ever have gotten the makeover it got and be selling in 2015 for $750,000 I would have laughed you out of the building. Probably one of the greatest success stories out of many failed dreams of restoring old, huge money to maintain wooden fishing boats.
Rosalie Parisi forwards this link back in 2012-
The American Eagle used to offload whiting and groundfish here at our dock back in the day. It was an eastern rigged dragger which most of the Gloucester fleet was back then and Captained by Rosalie’s father Captain Joe Piscitello.
The American eagle was bought from her father and converted into the boat she is now, a schooner. You can read all about it here- http://www.schooneramericaneagle.com/about/history.htm
and now this is what she looks like-

This is one blog post that I don’t consider myself worthy to write for a couple of different reasons. First of all, with only 15 years of residency in the amazing town of Rockport, I’m still a bit of a newcomer. Secondly, my behind has never had the privilege of sitting in one of the well-worn leather seats that could tell almost 60 years worth of tales. Let alone the iconic horse saddle seat. If scissors could speak. What in the world am I talking about? Well, THE hub of Rockport, of course. Walt Julian’s barber shop.
As new parents, my husband and I made lots of decisions together…and some apart. We agreed together on finding out the sex of our children before they were born. We agreed together on names. I, for example, decided on what the nursery would look like. And my husband, without consultation, decided that naturally their first haircuts would be done by the one-and-only Walt. As if I would have argued.
Even prior to my own children, I can remember MANY an early morning that my husband would creep out of bed at a somewhat insane hour to get a jump on the line at Walt’s. I still laugh about the day that he left at the crack of dawn as I slept on in disbelief. I grew even more incredulous when the phone rang and it was one of his good friends….who had recently moved to Beverly…calling to see if he had already left the house. When I said that he had already been gone for about 15 minutes all I got in return was, “Oh crap. I’m never going to beat that line. Click.”
So, I’m sure most of you know by now, that Walt Julian has closed his barber shop. With almost 60 years of story telling, listening, laughing, trimming, buzzing, shaving, and lollipop giving….he leaves an enormous scrapbook of memories in his wake.
While I’ve only met Walt a handful of times myself…and I am not as rooted in history here in Rockport as many others are…I am thrilled and honored to have photos of Thatcher and Finn in Walt’s care.
Congratulations, Walt, on a respected and iconic career, for creating memories for generations of Cape Ann residents, and, now, on your retirement.
I wonder just how many family scrapbooks contain photos of you! You will be missed!

The seals appeared as delighted as we were for today’s return of warmer temperatures. Despite the lack of sunshine, I counted 22 socializing and lollygagging, five on one rock alone!
The giant twelve-foot log tossed by the sea, up and over onto the Niles Pond side of the causeway, is seemingly supported by nothing but frozen snow. And Niles Pond is still thawing, with only a small cluster of mallards huddled together in the center of the ice. I hope the swans return soon!

Game Time folks! And guess who wants my autograph first??
Colin Cowherd!

Then he has a moment. ( Most do when they finally meet me)

Hate the shirt, not the season.

So, this is the big one: The return of the one and only Mr. Gordon Beadle. The man with the golden Sax. This hypoxia-inducing master of the honky sax will have you gasping for breath as he literally sucks all the oxygen out of the room and recycles it wobbling directly into your pineal gland. Woe to those who miss this.
But, wait, there’s more: Mr. Edd Scheer, leader of the Love Dogs, will be bashing the drums and singing all those crazy old songs that you know and love. Furthermore, Mr. Mike DiBari will be plucking those glitar strings. this could be one of my all-time favorite units to work with. It always takes me two days to recover! We all sing, we all play and we’re gonna laugh our asses off, to boot. You should come!
Time to start preparing sweet treats for Easter. Last year this recipe was created and posted on Sista’s Dish after being inspired by my favorite childhood Italian traditional Easter candy while shopping at Scalafini Bakery here in Gloucester. Its a fun recipe to make with kids and adults of all ages.

Dear Friends:
I have received the following communication from DPW Director Mike Hale concerning upcoming sewer work in the Smith Cove/Rocky Neck area.
March 23, 2015
Phase III CSO Control Plan – Project 5: Water and Sewer Rehabilitation
Re: Notice of Pending Sewer Rehabilitation, Smith Cove Sewer Easement
Dear Residents and Businesses:
As you are aware, the City of Gloucester is currently completing a water and sewer rehabilitation project in the East Main Street and Rocky Neck neighborhoods to improve the service and reliability of the municipal wastewater collection and water distribution systems. The sewer rehabilitation component of the project involves cleaning the existing sewer pipes and installing a cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) liner from existing manholes in the street to avoid excavation and minimize disturbance.
The next phase of work will include sewer rehabilitation of the sewer pipe crossing under Smith Cove from Rocky Neck Avenue within the City sewer easement limits of work area shown on the attached plan. The schedule for the rehabilitation work within the sewer easement crossing Smith Cove has not yet been finalized, but is anticipated to occur in April of 2015. The proposed Smith Cove sewer rehabilitation will also involve installation of CIPP liner from existing manholes so excavation and disturbance within the easement will be minimized.
Planned Work
Temporary Force Main (#229/R to #285 East Main Street and #5, #9 Rocky Neck Ave.)
In preparation for future sewer rehabilitation, the City’s Contractor (N. Granese & Sons) will install a temporary sewer pipe (force main) along the edge of the road from the Rocky Neck parking lot to the Beacon Marine pump station as shown on attached map. The temporary pipe will remain in place for approximately one month. When the pipe crosses driveway entrances, the contractor will create ramps of asphalt to allow vehicles to cross, or will excavate in road and bury the pipe if required to allow access to driveways. Following completion of the project, the contractor will clean up the area and repave the road where cuts were made.
Parking will be restricted along the route of this force main for the duration of the project.
Temporary Pump Station (in vicinity of #1 Eastern Point Rd. and #5 to #16 Rocky Neck Ave.)
The Contractor will then install temporary pumps in Rocky Neck Avenue to bypass the sewer flow through the temporary force main and allow work on the sewer pipe in Smiths Cove to proceed.
The pump station will be tested for a period of 48-hours and later will be run for approximately seven days. The station will run 24-hours a day and will be powered by diesel generators. They will be sound attenuated to reduce the impacts on the neighborhood but there will be some noise 24-7, with the pumps operating and workers attending and refueling the generators and pumps periodically.
Traffic will be restricted to one lane (alternating traffic) in the vicinity of the temporary pump station during the installation, testing, and operation of the temporary pump station.

Rocky Neck Parking Lot
During the work, the contractor will be staging equipment and materials in the parking lot on Rocky Neck Avenue. Parking will be restricted in the vicinity of the temporary pump station during this project (approximately one month), and when the rehabilitation work is underway (approximately 7 days) parking will be restricted on the majority of the parking lot.
We apologize in advance for any inconvenience you may incur during this process. The City appreciates your patience and forbearance during this important project. If you have any questions, or require additional information, please contact Scott Vesey (Construction Manager) at 978-973-6539 or Don Peavey (Department of Public Works) at 978-479-2184.
Sincerely,
Michael Hale
Director of Public Works
