Electricity Update: Captain Pete Mondello’s Energy Efficiency Breakdown and Annual Savings
So Captain Pete just had his energy efficiency evaluation at his house. You know the one’s I’ve been talking about since November? When you get yours done they print out a report stating exactly what you get for free and how much you will save annually just by taking the free stuff they give you like the LED lightbulbs and energy power strips and electronically controlled thermostats.
SIGN UP FOR THE FREE STUFF HERE-
So you can see from his report that he got 14 bulbs free, 2 electronic Honeywell thermostats installed free, 2 advanced 6 outlet smart powerstrips, all together valued at $363 and he paid $0. He was very happy this morning.
After all the free stuff they gave him they worked up a recommendation sheet of things that he could get 75% paid for through mass save and only have to pay 25% of teh cost of the work and materials. So the recommendations of insulation and other work was valued at $2024 worth of work of which there are Government subsidies that Next Step completely handles all the paperwork for you and his portion of all that work would end up costing him $379 out of pocket. If he takes advantage of the incentives and gets the work done and pays the $379 he can expect a further savings of $260 per year which is a return on investment which gets paid back in 1.4 years. after that every year going forward all of that money stays in his pocket. Absolute, without question, NO BRAINER CITY! When banks are offering less than 3% interest rates and you can get that kind of return on your money you’d have to be an absolute fool not to take advantage.
Image below is Captain Pete’s chart of free Energy Efficient Measures that he got just for signing up and having them come out to install the items.

More Coyotes On Eastern Point Photos From Tom Janis #GloucesterMA
Joey,
Hi. I appreciate Good Morning Gloucester!
Here are 4 coyotes walking through my backyard (Brace Cove in the distance) just now. I wonder how they’re surviving.
Best,
Tom Janis
I took this with my iPhone so not great quality, but here are 4 coyotes walking through my backyard just now (Brace Cove behind).
Enjoy Good Morning Gloucester! Thanks.
Tom Janis
Joey,
Hi! Here they are again this morning. All four were on the rock, in the sun, but it took too long for my phone to power on, but I was able to catch the last one crossing the rock. I’m pretty sure I know where their den is now (and they really worry me because I have a dog). I see them every day!
Best,
Tom Janis

Egyptian Geese
The Egyptian goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca) is a member of the duck, goose, and swan family Anatidae. It is native to Africa south of the Sahara and the Nile Valley.
Egyptian geese were considered sacred by the Ancient Egyptians, and appeared in much of their artwork. They have been raised for food and extensively bred in parts of Africa since they were domesticated by the ancient Egyptians. Because of their popularity chiefly as ornamental bird, escapes are common and small feral populations have become established in Western Europe.
I knew I had never seen such a bird before up north, but apparently they aren’t indigenous to Florida either, and thought they were cool enough to share.

Local Business Owner Reopens Photoshop Fred Bodin received cancer treatment at Addison Gilbert Hospital
For more than 40 years, photography has been Fred Bodin’s life. The Rockport resident started as a freelancer before getting regular work at local colleges, newspapers and magazines. Eventually he opened his own classic photography shop – Bodin Historic Photo – in downtown Gloucester.
“It’s like having a hobby, but I get paid for it,” said Bodin, who has run his Gloucester shop for nearly two decades.
But for 10 months last year, from January to October, Bodin’s shop was dark. There was no developing films and no interacting with customers. Instead, Bodin was at Addison Gilbert Hospital receiving cancer treatment.
In January 2014, Bodin was unable to walk and was taken to Addison Gilbert Hospital. There he was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer.

Gloucester Wins Award From MA Cultural Council
I figured that if I could board the USCG Barque Eagle, I could visit the Massachusetts State House. I’m glad I did, because the City of Gloucester won the 2015 Commonwealth Award for “Creative Community” by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. The ceremony was held in the capital’s Great Hall. About a dozen of us, elected officials and organizers from Gloucester’s two designated cultural districts, marched to the podium and onto the stage to accept the medal. Shown below, left to right, are: Anita Walker, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Cultural Council; Ann Margaret Ferrante, our State Representative; Sefatia Romeo Theken, Mayor of the City of Gloucester; and Bruce Tarr, our State Senator. I was glad to be there and proud to have been part of our accomplishments.
