Any media outlet That Criticizes Marty Walsh On Not Giving In And Guaranteeing Cost Overruns For The Olympics Are What’s Wrong with Media

All the headlines are about how Boston bungled the Olympic Bid process.  the headline should be that Boston Mayor Marty Walsh refused to give in and guarantee Cost Over-runs that would have burdened the city.  Anyone that doesn’t see that the Olympics completely screw the cities with huge bills for building monstrous facilities that never end up getting used are deaf dumb and blind.

So instead of criticizing Marty Walsh for how he handled it, I say he should be lauded for being financially responsible with the taxpayers money.  More elected officials should follow his lead.

Say what you will but these same media outlets would have skewered him way worse when the bills came due for the cost over-rides for inevitable mess that the Olympics would have made the City of Boston.

here’s the poll Nichole put up when we heard about the bid-

Art in Dogtown?

Robert Maselek submits-

If anybody is wondering where their stuffed animals have run off to, I spotted the aftermath of a stuffed animal party in Dogtown…art installation? Runaways?  Just wondering if any GMG readers have any idea

Peter Digre submits-

The salt sea was frozen on her breast,
The salt tears in her eyes
And he saw her hair, like the brown seaweed,
On billows fall and rise.
Such was the wreak of the Hesperus,
In the midnight and the snow,
Christ save us all from a death like this,
On the reef of Norman’s Woe.

Good morning, Joey.

We drove through a turn-around-if-you-have-any-sense downpour near Essex to find perfect dinner weather at the Harriet Webster Pier.  This was our second time at The Evening in White,  and we recognized many of the same people from last year, which only added to this year’s experience.  Enclosed are a few of our photos and here is the link to rest: https://michaelmiller.smugmug.com/Evening-in-White-2015/

For comparison here are last year’s:  https://michaelmiller.smugmug.com/Evening-in-White/

Lastly, I meant to send you this year’s Rockport Raging Inferno photos:  https://michaelmiller.smugmug.com/Rockport-Raging-Inferno-2015/

Stephanie Palazola O’Neil gives us the correct answer- Pisces!
Tracey Mortillaro, Jenn Cullen, Grace Numerosi had it right! Congratulations. (It was my guess too.)
Stephanie adds-
Matty’s hair salon was where the original Jalapeños was, and then they expanded into what was the Rigger.

Movie Goers, Meet Trash Can

The boys and I, along with some friends, have attended the HarborWalk Outdoor Cinema Series the past two Wednesdays.  The boys have had a great time and I’m sure we’ll continue to go as the summer continues.

There is nothing better than free community events and kudos to the organizers and sponsors for making it all happen.

That having been said, I have been horrified by the amount of trash that has been scattered and left behind by those in attendance.  I assure you that my photo doesn’t do justice to the enormous amount of debris, wrappers, and yuckiness that has littered the outdoor movie lot as families have packed up and headed for home.

Last week I asked my boys to each grab a few pieces of trash and we deposited it in trash cans on our way out.  There are, by the way, several trash cans available on location. On the way home, I was mad at myself for not staying and doing more to help return the lot to its tidy condition. I was more angered, however, by the fact that people could simply leave their crap behind in the first place.  Gosh knows I do PLENTY wrong, but I can’t help but think about what kind of message it gives children when they are allowed to walk away and leave their rubbish behind.

For the record, I am well aware that many families obviously took the time to pick up their items…but it was evident, that just as many, if not more, did not.

On a happier note, please look here to see the movie line-up for the rest of the summer, HarborWalk Cinema Series

Harbor Cruise

Mollie and John Byrnes were honored last week on a Gloucester Harbor cruise fundraising event featuring live entertainment and a silent auction.

The Gloucester residents invited others in the community to join them in supporting a new Cardiology Suite at Addison Gilbert Hospital with a $150,000 challenge grant to the Addison Gilbert Society.

“We are so pleased to support the new Cardiology Suite, and delighted that Dr. Michael Arsenian is heading this important service at Addison Gilbert Hospital,” said John Byrnes.

In April, the brand new Cardiology Suite at Addison Gilbert Hospital opened. Featuring two physician offices, two patient exam rooms, a registration area, and a spacious and comfortable waiting area for patients and family members, the suite is conveniently located adjacent to the hospital’s main entrance and close to frequently needed diagnostic and treatment areas. The new practice is led by Michael Arsenian, MD, a well-known and well-respected cardiologist.

THE FRIENDLY RED ADMIRAL

So named Friendly because he’ll alight on your arm or head, attracted to the minerals in perspiration. This Red Admiral was found warming its wings in the early morning sun at Niles Pond. Butterflies wings do not work very well in cool, rainy temperatures. I hope the upcoming heat wave brings a batch of butterflies!
