Happy Birthday to Anna Baglaneas Eves and Vickie Van Ness.

Anna and her husband James Eves run and operate Cape Ann Giclee. The best and only place to have your photos printed on canvas, metal or any other media. Anna is fun and pleasant to do business with. We at GMG treasure our friendship with Anna. For more information on Anna and Cape Ann Giclee please follow the link below.

Cape Ann Symphony’s SEASON OPENING SPECTACULAR This SAT 9/26

CapeAnnSymphontFall2015You probably know Ravel’s Boléro from the movie “10” in which Bo Derek’s character called it, “The most descriptive sex music ever written.”

If you’re not so sure about that, perhaps you should come see the Cape Ann Symphony perform it, along with Gershwin’s An American in Paris and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition (all three of these comprising an extraordinary musical feast) this Saturday, Sept 26 at 8pm at MERHS Auditorium.  (I’m not sure, but I think it’s likely that the Symphony is playing Ravel’s arrangement of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.  If anybody knows for sure, please comment on this post.)

GET TICKETS HERE.

I’ve got two entertaining Boléro videos to warm you up:

The Copenhagen Philharmonic flash mob performing Boléro at Copenhagen Central Station.  (It’ll likely be quieter in the auditorium on Saturday — with better acoustics too.)

Here’s the famous scene from “10” (don’t be fooled, the first music you hear is Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet).  Wait for Boléro.  It’s worth it.

Gallery hours: Thursday-Sunday, 12:00-4:00 PM

Opening Reception: Saturday, September 26, 4:00-6:00 PM

Exhibit Event: Poetry & Conversation: Sunday October 4, 4:00-6:00 PM

Gloucester MA, August 6, 2015 — The Rocky Neck Art Colony is presenting an exciting exhibition entitled “Inner Field”. This group show by the seven artists of Cripple Cove Studios highlights each artist’s exploration of their own inner field. At the same time it reflects on the interconnections created by the space they share. The artists include: Anna Vojtech, Sinikka Nogelo,  Linda Lagano Sojda, Sandy Simon, Terry Del Percio- Piemonte, Mary Davies Cole, Deborah Flynn Aldrich, joined by sculptor Roland Cornelis.

The public is invited to an opening reception for the artists on Saturday, September 26, 4:00-6:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served in the recently air-conditioned space. Music by Barb Levine on the hammered dulcimer.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

As artists, we each retreat into our own inner field in order to create meaningful art.  As members of Cripple Cove Studios, we share the inner field of this dedicated space. Crossing the threshold, each artist leaves the outside world behind to cultivate, imagine and discover their own artistic journey.

On Sunday October 4, from 4:00-6:00 PM, join the Cripple Cove artists for a poetry reading by former Cripple Cove member and poet, Dorothy Shubow Nelson and a conversation on “Inner Field: Yours, Mine and Ours”.

BUTT FIENDS litter rant and good eggs shout out Dan Leaman Landscaping

image

Cat Ryan submits-

Cigarette butts are right up there as the most common and yucky litter. Gloucester offers a quick ride right into our ocean waters. We were required to clean our sidewalk daily in front of our business or be fined.  Some smokers would flick one right in the midst of our dustpan and broom without missing a step.

Smoker trash is just an unfailing source of __________. You fill in the blank. There’s a big blind spot.

Business owners, employees, property owners, tenants: a lot of what we pick up downtown are piles of the same cigarette brand. Case in point:

Award for BUTT FIEND on Parsons goes to a proud Parliament smoker. Residents including kids are out here with gloves picking up your butts. We’re not talking the random passerby flick. We’re talking regular and routine breaks where you just sit there dropping.

Big shout out to Dan Leaman and Mike Carter today with Dan Leaman Landscaping. Thank you for coming back again to help with Parsons Street.

In life, look for the helpers. Donna Ardizzoni, Patty Amaral, and many volunteers  –See Donna’s post for this Saturday’s clean up

“Wait…what?” The Phenomenal Satch Kerans is at it Again!

You want to support local music and score some pretty excellent songs written about our beloved Gloucester at the very same time…. head straight to the link below!

http://satchkerans.bandcamp.com/album/wait-what

Take the time to take a listen.

Satch Kerans has just released his 5th solo album and after listening it to it during yesterday’s Patriots game it was a total no-brainer to go ahead and buy it on his “bandcamp” page for a mere $7.  The songs are “folky rock” (or at least that is what this non-musician would call them) and, when I closed my eyes…which is how I always need to listen to new music…I kind of felt like I was soaring over Gloucester Harbor, the docks, the fishing fleet, through downtown, and towards Rockport.

Of course, don’t just take my word for it….

“Years after settling into an entirely different identity and new set of priorities – Kerans reemerges with some of the best songs he’s ever written. At the collection’s core is a clutch of sturdy melodies and classic pop structures…Kerans gets better and surer with age”.

Jonathan Perry
The Boston Globe

In case you were under a rock…or maybe just not living on Cape Ann and the greater surrounding area during the 80s, the 90s, and a bit beyond…Satch Kerans drew crazy crowds with his band The Catalinas (ahhhh…the memories).  While he’s also now rocking the baseball and soccer fields as a father, husband, and coach…his musical talents have only grown stronger.

If, by any chance, I haven’t given you enough reason to go ahead and take a listen, buy a song, or buy the entire album…it is worth noting that solo album #5 by Satch Kerans is also dedicated to his friend, Ed Gieras, who passed away in April, 2015 after enduring Huntington’s Disease.

Satch was sure to include the link where we can all help find a cure for Huntington’s Disease on his BandCamp page.

“Help find a cure and donate to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (hdsa.org).”

Rebecca Borden Ward 1 2015 Gloucester Ma Election Video

To View Other Candidate submissions- https://2015gloucestermaelection.wordpress.com/

gmglogohires

As you all know we don’t take political stances here or endorse candidates but what I’d like to offer is an invitation for any candidate that is running for office in Gloucester to submit a video explaining why they think they are best suited for the position they are running for. The easiest way to do this would be to upload the video to YouTube.

The videos will be released once and placed on GMG at 7PM on the following night that they are received. If more than one video is submitted to me at goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com then the first one that is submitted will be aired the following evening at 7PM and the next one submitted will be posted the following evening at 7PM. There will be a link in each candidates post containing their video to https://2015gloucestermaelection.wordpress.com/ which will have all previously submitted candidate’s videos.

Once they are submitted they will be added to https://2015gloucestermaelection.wordpress.com/ where all the videos will be available for viewing at any time on the same page.

In the title of the video it should list the candidate’s name- position they are running for and the words “GMG submission”.

If a candidate is not able to create a video to submit, then that speaks in my opinion to their qualifications to hold a position at this level of City Government. If a candidate doesn’t read GMG or doesn’t get the word about this opportunity then that also speaks to their qualifications to hold a position at this level of City Government knowing the reach GMG has.

As always the GMG politics disclaimer- any post on these pages containing a candidate does not imply an endorsement for any candidate. Comments on www.goodmorninggloucester.com for these video submissions on the blog will be turned off for these posts as well.

Hopefully this will serve to help candidates get their message across.

Good luck and thank you to all that participate in the process for the love of Gloucester and making it better.
