Eastern Point Light at dusk

imageThis is one of my favorite “unique” photos of Eastern Point Light.   It’s not unique because of the pretty skies behind it or the nice light on the house from the setting sun, it’s because this was taken when they were filming a movie there.  The cyclone fence is removed and its staged with boats and old fence posts.  Love how natural the scene looks.   It was a short lived view!

Gloucester’s Tim Sanborn Owns Cazeault Solar & Home and Explains How Solar Is A Complete No-Brainer Investment

Tim Breaks down the crazy amount of State and Federal Tax credits and SREC’s available which has Solar paying for itself within 3 or 4 years and after that actually puts money in your pocket.

Solar is now at a point where not only does it make financial sense, it’s actually one of the best investments you can make, paying you back a return!

Tim Graduated from Gloucester High School in 1971 where he was the captain of the football team and the company that he owns Cazeault Solar and Home did roughly 80 installs on the North Shore (a majority of which were on Cape Ann) last year alone.

Call to talk to Tim at 978-281-4625  He’s local and he’s a straight shooter.

7 SEAS WHALE WATCH REPORTS SPECTACULAR MULTIPLE WHALE SIGHTINGS

Fifty to sixty Humpbacks, two Finbacks, and hundreds of Atlantic White-sided Dolphins, 7 Seas Whale Watch had an extraordinary day at sea! 13119989_1325663077450650_629713697218533361_oApril 27, 2016

We just returned from what will do doubt be remembered as one of the best whale watches of the 2016 season. I hesitate to even give an estimate of the number whales we saw because I feel it will set unrealistic expectations, but here goes: We travelled 13 miles southeast of Gloucester (to the northwest corner of Stellwagen Bank) and saw an estimated 50-60 HUMPBACK WHALES (I identified 30 individual whales and I know I didn’t get to half of what was out there), plus 2 FINBACK WHALES and hundreds of ATLANTIC WHITE-SIDED DOLPHINS!

13116226_1325663114117313_1235761831051625421_o13087194_1325663320783959_3556942711709654565_oAll of the whales were feeding. At one point we had a group of at least 12 Humpbacks feeding together. The whales were blowing huge rings of bubbles at the surface (these bubble rings trap and concentrate fish) and then rising up through the bubbles with their mouth wide open in one of the most impressive feeding displays we have seen in a long, long time.

While feeding was no doubt the main activity of the day, we were also treated to a spectacular display of breaching from a young Humpback Whale calf – “Venom’s” new calf! 13112985_1325663234117301_9145072562073087217_o

BREAKING BUSINESS DISPATCH: Say thanks and goodbye G33K and welcome goodlinens on 130 Main St

G33K (‘geek’) a small business that was big in game will be closing its location in Gloucester, MA.

G33K is located in 130 Main Street between Dogtown Books and Main Street Art and Antiques. Make sure to stop by to say thanks and good luck! We were light customers–Pokémon packs and random t-shirt gifts—but always treated large. There is a store-wide closing sale on now.

When one door closes another opens. Welcome goodlinens opening July 1

Gloucester resident, business owner, designer and artisan JoAnne Chirico has been on the lookout for a ‘just right’ Main Street goodlinens headquarters for years, and boy has she found it! 130 Main Street is the one she’s been dreaming about as a retail work space, craft and creative show room. It is within an historic building and district, boasts 13 foot ceilings and has ample room for her vision and requirements. Did I mention great neighbors and the sunny side of the street?

As G33K moves out and goodlinens moves in to 130 Main Street, the space will be temporarily closed as it’s transformed in time for a July 1 soft summer launch and grand opening in September.

goodlinens new flagship store and open studio on Main Street will feature JoAnne’s handmade beautiful and functional designs along with selected hand made crafts from other artisans, local and beyond. The retail will include kitchen and housewares goods, unique and special objects, finds, and lighting. She embraces an open work studio concept in such an original and thoughtful way. This space will be a place for people making things. I expect it to be inspiring, playful, unexpected and comfortable. She has a lot in store for this store. She can’t wait to finally move boxes, case-goods and tables out of her home, her friends’ barns and other storage sites. Look for new Facebook and updates coming soon.

In the meantime, here’s a snapshot of JoAnne quickly sketching a layout with high points, and one of goodlinens videos shot by Gloucester cinematographers’ Yellow Hook Productions.

It’s a Feel-Good Weekend for Nineteen Bucks

We all want to feel good.  “So why do we love the Blues?” you ask.  As it turns out, music in general — and sad songs in particular — help us feel better.  Really.  Here are 4 scientific studies on the subject: Science Alert, PLOS, NAI, University of Chicago.

Tomorrow (Saturday) night you have 4 good reasons to feel better … and all 4 are right down the road at Beverly’s intimate, acoustically stellar Larcom Theatre:

  1. The Delta Generators last concert with Craig Rawding fronting the band
  2. Willie J. Laws Band
  3. Danielle Miraglia with special guest Cheryl Arena
  4. All of these blues stars on the same stage raising money to help Harborlight Community Partners prevent homelessness.

What’s not to feel good about?  Tickets starting at only $19.00 are still available here.
