Please visit the Chamber’s Facebook Page to view the retailer videos we’ve posted to far.
Retailers can create their own videos using a smart phone and send them our way. If you create your own, please send your video via Dropbox.com to marketing@capeannchamber.com. If you’d like our help, give us a call at 978-283-1601.
We will post as many videos as we receive and tag your page with your video post, We ask that you all like and share all videos so that we maximize our reach and the Shop Cape Ann message.
GAAC Holiday Party Friday 12/9
December 7, 2016 ~ Michael Deneen ~
At our annual Gloucester Area Astronomy Club Holiday Party, Friday December 9, 8:00 pm at the Lanesville Community Center, we’re lucky enough to have Dr. Mario Motta with a presentation on his latest astronomy science project, an investigation of a white dwarf star (WD 1145+017) in Virgo that is orbited by the remains of a disintegrating small planet or asteroid.
The star seems to be tearing apart a small planet, leaving multiple small planetesimals and cometary trails in its wake. The story of the destruction of an actual planet is going to lead to a really interesting evening.
Mario’s been following and charting the disintegration, and is going to share his process and results with us on the 9th. It’s always fun to hear speakers who can report first-hand on actual astronomical events, and our December 2016 holiday party will be one of those rare nights.
Join us!
The Gloucester Area Astronomy Club meets on the second Friday of the month at 8:00pm at the Lanesville Community Center, 8 Vulcan Street, Lanesville. There are no dues or fees, and all are welcome. Find out more about GAAC at http://gaac.us, on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/GAACpage, or on Twitter, @GAACster.

It’s The Holiday Season-You Need batteries- Be Smart
If you’re like my former self you’d wait til Christmas Eve to figure out that you’ve got a buttload of toys for your kids that require batteries and you’d run to CVS or Stop and Shop and get crucified on the price of batteries. I’ve tried the rechargeable route but inevitably the kids toss them out and you have to have the charger plugged in and you can never find them when you need them.
But no longer. Because with a little bit of research you see these AC Delco batteries are the best value by a mile.
From a research chart you see that the AC Delcos crushed the competition in value.
Here’s the links to purchase them on Amazon-

OneRepublic’s ANTHEM FOR COLLATERAL BEAUTY
Very much looking forward to seeing the forthcoming film Collateral Beauty. It looks to be an uplifting film for Christmas and was filmed in New York City last year during the holiday season. OneRepublic’s new anthem “Let’s Hurt Tonight” is the official single for the film’s soundtrack. The video was performed on a city rooftop and includes clips from the film throughout.
Collateral Beauty, starring Will Smith, Kate Winslet, Naomi Harris, Keira Knightley, Ed Norton, and Helen Mirren opens on December 16th.

Photos from today’s 9th Annual Women’s Luncheon at Cape Ann Museum
The Cape Ann Museum was closed today and early yesterday to prepare for their incredible luncheon. This year it was throughout the museum with formal seating upstairs and downstairs and a rock star video feed. It was elegant, inspiring and fun! For more information see the earlier GMG post.
Mariposa founder Livia Cowan with Mariposa designers, Shelly Bradbury and Michael Updike, were the featured speakers. Timothy S. Hopkins catered; it was scrumptious. Tiny special red peppers looked like ornaments in our salads and were a discovery for many. The new tote bag featuring the Lee Natti chicadee print was flying out the museum shop. Kathleen Adams (harpsichord) and Dawn Pratson (flute) filled our hearts with LIVE music directly from the Jeremy Adams exquisite special exhibition. The Paul Manship tortoise was festooned for the holidays which seemed extra fitting as last year’s luncheon raised more than $25,000 towards this acquisition.

Long Way To Go

QUENTIN CALLEWAERT joins Fly Amero This Wednesday 7pm December 7th @ The Rhumb Line!

Dinner Specials Each Week!
Wednesday, December 7th – 7pm
A VERY, VERY Special Music Guest:
QUENTIN CALLEWAERT!

Folks… something very, very special will be happening this
week at the Rhumb. A young (he’s only 16) genius by the
name of Quentin Callewaert will be strutting his amazing
stuff for us all. He reminds me so much of myself when I
was his age (just a few years ago, of course). So full of
spirit and enthusiasm. He loves what he does, and it shows.
Some of you may have caught him on cable’s “Local Music
Seen” with Allen Estes – way back when he was only THIRTEEN!
OMG! And speaking of “back”… for those wondering, I am
100% back on my weekly Rhumb Line rotation. Surely,
Quentin and I will be trading a few licks, and maybe teaching
each other a few new tricks. Marina Evans is out of country
for the holidays this year. We’ll catch up when she returns.
And, something else to watch for… please don’t miss Allen
Estes, myself, Senator Bruce Tarr and many more friends on
North Shore 104.9’s live broadcast of its 21st annual Holiday
Toy Drive this coming Thursday. The fun and festivities will
be running throughout the entire day. Click the link below
for further details. All for now. Happy Holidays! ~ Fly

Live Blogging: The 9th Annual Women’s Luncheon in the galleries at Cape Ann Museum

The Cape Ann Museum is closed today for this festive and cherished women’s only soiree hosted by the museum’s active Fitz Henry Lane Society and Red Cottage Society committees in concert with the outstanding museum staff. There is ample time for lingering points of vantage throughout the exhibits, holiday shopping, and dining in the galleries upstairs and downstairs.
The 2016 gathering is catered by Timothy S. Hopkins. Mariposa founder and designers are the featured speakers. Felicia Ciaramitaro (SistaFelicia) has featured Mariposa designs in her work and on the GMG blog.
For many museum guests, it will be the last chance to visit the special exhibition featuring recent Cape Ann Museum acquisitions, closing Sunday, December 11th. The extraordinary exhibition with a modest title Voicing the Woods: Jeremy Adams Instrument Maker will be up through February 26th.
More information about the gallant day’s keynote conversation from the Cape Ann Museum release: Continue reading “Live Blogging: The 9th Annual Women’s Luncheon in the galleries at Cape Ann Museum”
