A Lobster Trap tree mini buoy from Cape Ann Art Haven goes to the State House

More public art and heart-

Thanks to Janice Lufkin-Shea, Pauline Bresnahan, Hannah Morris, David Brooks Cape Ann Art Haven, Senator Tarr and others, Ā Gloucester and its lobster trap tree and traditions Ā have a place in the Massachusetts Senate President’s Office. Here are photos of Senator Bruce Tarr with Stan Rosenberg, the 93rd President of the Massachusetts Senate, in theĀ Senate President’s Office.Ā First two photos from inside the State House were from Senator Tarr.

David Brooks writes that he hopes the buoy will be a permanent ornament, “but I’m not sure how long it will last. Its made of a small plastic net buoy and plaster. We made it as an Art Haven team and tried to make it look like a kid did it so it fit the character of the tree.”Ā Perhaps a bronze version may be commissioned from Cape Ann Art Haven one day.

There wereĀ special ornaments to discover on the tree in City Hall, too, in the rotunda outside the Office of the Mayor.

BEAUTIFUL WINTER’S DAY IN OUR GLOUCESTER NEIGHBORHOOD

gloucester-city-skyline-winter-copyright-kim-smithFrom an early morningĀ stop at the bottom of my hill, with a view towards the Harbor and City Hall (as well asĀ a feisty Common Loon), to the creatures abounding along the shore,Ā it was a gorgeous winter morning, and all set against a widelyĀ striped and deeply-hued winter sky backdrop.

Before The Flood

A Movie that Will Move You:
Join us for a screening of Before The Flood

As we watch the presidential cabinet fill with representatives of the fossil fuel industry and climate deniers, it is important for we the people to maintain a grounding in sound science and activism.  To this end, on Thursday January 5, 2017, 7 PM at the Cape Ann Cinema, the leaders from our environmental breakout session organized a screening to show excerpts from Fisher Stevens and Leonardo DiCaprio’s new film, Before The Flood.  This epic documentary follows DiCaprio as he explores the dramatic and destructive changes that climate warming has brought to our planet, looks, unflinchingly into the future, and explores the changes required by governments, industry, and people if we are to survive.
“Try to have a conversation with anyone about climate change, and people just tune out. And the problem seems to be getting worse, and worse, and worse,” DiCaprio’s voice-over takes us into the crux of the film.  However, it is our voices that will lead us out as viewers become participants: responding to what we are seeing, learning about organizations on the North Shore galvanized to address these issues, and generating our own ideas on how each of us can stand in the path of climate warming and reclaim our planet.
Host: NorthShore 350, Citizens Climate Lobby and Action Together North Shore, MA: our new North Shore Environmental Coalition

We hope to see you there!
