The sun going down over Magnolia Harbor

My View of Life on the Dock

 THE CALL:
RNAC seeks works of art by RNAC members featuring both representational and abstract 2D works in water media, oil, graphite, encaustic, photographs and prints; and also jewelry, ceramics and sculpture.
The exhibition (unjuried) will display the variety of work that RNAC members are doing in 2017 and reveal the variety of artistic expression and direction found in the work of RNAC artists. Both floors of the Cultural Center will be used to display art with room for approximately 30 artists submitting wall art, and for 10-3D artists on pedestals.
A curating team made up of exhibition committee members will make final choices and all choices will be final. (You, as an RNAC member, are welcome to join the committee. The committee meets regularly.) The first 30 artists to submit wall art will be guaranteed space for at least one work (depending on size); all other works will be considered as space is available.
RNAC members only. Artists must be members when entering. To join the Rocky Neck Art Colony go to http://rockyneckartcolony.org/join.php.
$20 per artist will cover the costs of mounting this show.
There is a 25% commission on sales.
RNAC requires a number of good quality photos of work for publicity and web site promotion in JPEG format. Files are to be sized no greater than 2 MB, maximum 1,200 pixels for the longest dimension. Each image must be labeled with the following information: last name, first name initial, title, medium.jpg. Example: Smith_J_SunsetSymphony_acrylic.jpg
Please email images to Suzanne at director@rockyneckartcolony.org.
Submitted 2-D work of 24 inches in width and 50 inches in height, including the frame is recommended. 3-D work must fit on a 16×16” pedestal top. (3-D artists should be prepared to supply pedestals as needed.) Accepted work must be suitably framed and wired for hanging; no saw-tooth or sandwich frames allowed.

Special Guest: TONY FRONTIERO!

Guitarist/singer/songwriter Tony Frontiero has led and played
in many local cover and original bands through the 80s and
90s (Easy Street, Grapevine Road). In recent years, however,
we find him focusing on his songwriting and solo career. No
stranger to the Rhumb Line, Tony had a regular Sunday night
solo spot here back in the 90’s. His songs have a pop sensibility
with a touch of blues, R&B, folk and jazz. ~ Fly

Looking forward to a little thaw today!

A while back I wrote a blog post about how funny it was to pull into the rental lot to pick up a car for our road trip to NYC….only to realize that my boys truly thought, for one glorious moment in their young lives, that we were renting a Maserati from the dealership that happened to be right next door. Â We were, instead, renting a minivan. Â The polar opposite, perhaps, of the Maserati Dream they had just been so rudely slapped awake from. Â Sorry, boys. Â I laugh again just thinking about it.
So, how funny that a friend of mine now stars in the 2017 Maserati Ghibli commercial that was just released this week.  He’s the driver….and he could convince me to buy a Maserati any day. My boys remind me of the young boy in this commercial….car enthusiasts that they are. Maybe you remember the video of them sprinting from car to car at the New England Auto Show in a state-of-the-art electronics, leather and shiny chrome induced frenzy….in their own need for speed. While they’ve never met Andrea, they think he’s super cool.  His cool status increased exponentially when he purchased a Cape Ann Youth Hockey cash calendar all the way from Italy….so, he’s a good guy too.  Same guy, in fact, that started One Love Unified….a clothing company with quite a mission that, “believes in the power of youthful optimism- random acts of kindness and individual responsibility to change the world. Our philosophy is to contribute to the betterment of humankind, and to co-exist with all living creatures. At our core essence, we believe in showing love for one another, the community, and the environment. OLU is committed to the fulfillment of this vision- a world free from violence, where all living creatures live harmoniously with one another.”
If you ask me, we need more Andreas in the world.
