This morning’s snow and ice lingered all day, shrouding the city in such a hauntingly beautiful manner that I couldn’t help but take the late afternoon off and went looking and taking as many photos as possible before the sun set.

Saint Anthony’s by-the-sea Snowy Morning
Saint Anthony’s Chapel, early this morning when it was still snowing. I am hoping to post a second batch of photos from later today, of the hauntingly beautiful scenes of snow- and ice-shrouded Gloucester however the branches and phone lines are laden and our lights keep flickering on and off. I hope we don’t lose power tonight but won’t be surprised if we do.

Does anyone know why these ducks are in a net cage
These ducks were in the marsh across from Black Beach in Manchester.

We may be fed up with it…but it’s still so pretty!
I know everyone has had enough of the shoveling and wintry weather…I myself am tired of wearing ugly big boots and ski pants to work everyday, but you have to admit that today’s snow is so beautiful!

Sometimes sound is an afterthought in video productions—
But it shouldn’t be. Bad audio can make your video unwatchable!
It’s good to know when to use a hand mic, a lav mic, or a shotgun mic. And
what’s the best mixer if you’re using more than one microphone?
Join award-winning local video producer ted reed at our next lunch and
learn at the Cape Ann TV studio on Wednesday February 22nd at noon. Bring
your audio questions and we’ll take a look at what sounds good when it
comes to video.
Space is limited for this event; please RSVP to rtober@capeanntv.org to

NEW SHORT FILM: THE UNCOMMON COMMON TERN
What fun to encounter a small flock of terns teaching its young to fish. Nearly as large as the adults, the tubby terns cheekily squawk and demand food (shrimp I think in this case). Watch as the fledglings try to master fishing skills while the adults tirelessly guide the young on how to feed themselves.
With thanks to Paul St. Germain, president of the Thacher Island Association, for information about the ongoing restoration of shorebirds on Thacher Island.
