The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck
6 Wonson Street, Gloucester, MA 01930
ROCKY NECK ART COLONY presents the Manchester Summer Chamber Music Concert at The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, Thursday August 17. Doors at 6:30 PM, music begins at 7 PM.
Manchester Summer Chamber Music (MSCM) celebrates its ninth season this August. Combining the magic of warm summer nights with dynamic interpretations of both chamber music gems and vibrant new music, MSCM offers an exciting performance that welcome audiences of all backgrounds and ages. MSCM is dedicated to sharing classical music of the highest caliber with the communities of the North Shore. Twenty-one musicians from around the world will come together to create a joyful, engaging concert, as audiences have come to expect from MSCM.
MSCM was founded in 2009 by Manchester native Sage Cole and Andover native Lorna Tsai. The childhood friends spent their summers exploring the North Shore’s beaches and playing music festivals across the country. The pair decided to combine these beloved activities to create MSCM: a music festival on the North Shore where musicians and appreciators can share in the beauty of the music, region, and community.
This season will be the first time MSCM performs in Gloucester. MSCM at Rocky Neck is a joint presentation between MSCM and the Rocky Neck Art Colony and will be held at the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck (6 Wonson Street, Gloucester MA). MSCM musicians, including renowned contralto Emily Marvosh, will perform a selection of pieces by American composers, such as Pulitzer-award-winner Caroline Shaw’s “Cant voi l’aube” and Antonin Dvorak’s String Quartet No. 12 in F Major, “American.”
“A Manchester Music Festival concert is what chamber music is all about — intimate and joyful performances of great music.”
– Jim Lowe, Southern Vermont Arts Center
“Manchester Summer Chamber Music has established its own identity after eight seasons.” – Keith Powers, Metrowest Daily News

Happy 90th Birthday Roy Spittle
We were honored to spend last night celebrating Roy Spittles 90th Birthday. Â Roy is a man with many stories to tell and my husband and he shared memories of their days at Gloucester High School when Roy was the Electrical theory teacher in the Vocational school and Neil was his student for 4 years. Â He helped educate numerous Electrical contractors who are in business today. Â You can tell by talking to all his family and friends how beloved he is as a true patriarch and mentor. Â Mayor Sefatia Romeo Thekin presented him with a proclamation from the City. Â Happiest of Birthdays Roy!

Call to local artists | Beauport Hotel hosts CAPE ANN ART SHOW August 22

Paddleboard race in Gloucester | Cape Ann SUPahBowl vision for a new sporting event was a HUGE success!
Cape Ann SUPahBowl, Gloucester’s biggest paddle board racing event, brought more than 60 contestants to Pavilion Beach at Beauport Hotel early this morning. It was a rainy start but gave way to a beautiful day on Gloucester Harbor.
Congratulations on a such an amazing launch Cape Ann SUP! And to all who pulled this together including Beauport Hotel, High 5EM event management company, Barefoot Wine (the largest wine spritzer company in the country I was told- who knew?),  One Ocean One Love retail shop, and a big family of volunteers and staff.
The race had staggered starts for 4 various classes: elite, amateur, open and kids. The elites kicked it off and had the longest distance course. Â The video shows the start of the first two groups heading off to turn right… at the Greasy Pole! Coast guard and police boats were on hand and a paddle board pit stop at each buoy should any help be necessary. Photos from today’s event below.
They’re off!

Returning Racers
Racers return to Pavilion Beach after grueling courses. Cape Ann SUP (red t-shirts) staff wait to carry and beach each and every board as contestants dismount and sprint –carrying their paddles — through to the official finish line and timer.

Finished racers await other contestants and times. Many knew each other and competed in all 4 races of summer 2017.

Ashley and Caren from HIGH 5EM event management handled the times (I’ll post to results)
BEFORE THE RACE
Vinnie, Dominic’s dad (white shirt), Â worked throughout the event (setting up finish line here with High 5em!) and worked through the celebration. “It’s a family effort and affair,” he said speaking to how the race is put on and who it caters to. There was a tremendously positive vibe!

DURING THE RACE
Danielle Maccini, Director of Events for Beauport Hotel, goes over details with Dominic. Small or large they make any event special. DanielleM@BeauportHotel.com

The view from the Beauport Hotel deck is a sweeping stunner! Before the awards ceremony and reception were held, Barefoot Wine, Cape Ann SUP and One Ocean One Love shop were readying the event space with Beauport Hotel.

AWARDS CEREMONY AND RECEPTION
Gentle and fun crowd of racers. There was serious prize money and cute swag. All participants received the sweet inaugural t-shirt.

Nice to see so many families and future racers!
