Seaside Garden Club Kicks off their Season with Books in Bloom and a Plant Swap!

Books in BloomThe Seaside Garden Club kicks off their season with Books in Bloom and a Plant Swap on September 12th at the Manchester Community Center.  Doors open at 7:00 pm for social time and the program begins at 7:30.  Light refreshments will be served.  All are welcome, guests $5.  Annual membership is now open for $30.  Sign up now to get your name in our yearbook and enjoy some terrific programs. The club meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month through June.
Members are creating floral arrangements (can work in pairs) inspired by a book of their choosing. This is similar to the Art in Bloom at the Museum of Fine Arts. Have fun, get creative and expose the hidden artist inside. You can chose any kind of book as your inspiration: fiction, nonfiction, children’s, cookbook, travel book, any book that strikes your fancy.  We’re asking those who do arrangements to donate them for…

Hurricane Irma–Florida Couple Evacuate to Gloucester

This couple from Apopka, FL, when it was recommended to evacuate because of Hurricane Irma, they decided to come all the way to Gloucester.  They mentioned, that trying to find a generator was impossible, it seems that most generators have been shipped to Huston Texas.  They hope when they return there is minimal damage.  Best of luck to all that are effected by these hurricanes.

Visitors from Ohio has famous Sister Bobbi Thiessen

I met this couple from Fairborn Ohio on the boulevard.  We spoke briefly and I learned that her sister (Bobbi M Thiessen) is the author of the “The Homeless Crab”, a children’s book which sells on Amazon.

For anyone needing a mood lift, make a little trip over to Colby Farm in Newbury and check out their beautiful sunflower field which has just started to bloom! As always show Colby Farm some love by putting a few bucks in the donation box or visiting the farm stand next door…and be respectful so everyone can enjoy!! (no picking the flowers!). It’s that time of year, where you’ll be walking in the woods or along a pond’s edge, when you come across a treasure trove of spiderwebs. Nearly every tree and shrub are dressed in gossamer woven webs of silk. The best time to find the spider’s trap is just after a spell of fog.
