Thursday! At the Rheumline: the triumphant return of J.B. Amero! Girls, put those Spanx® on, overdo the  warpaint and dive right in! I don’t really have to tell you about this guy, unless you’ve been entombed for the last  50 years. No, he’s not driving himself. But Dave Brown and Dave Mattacks will be there to push him along. I’ll be in the corner with the chair and the whip! Sorry, no mexican food available to the faithful. Bring your own Kleenex.™

Windows

pexels-photo-60774.jpegYou can tell because the sun sets at 4:00 and the morning dew on your windshield has turned to ice. The solstice may still be a few weeks away, but for all pragmatic purposes, winter has arrived. If you are surviving the cold snaps by turning up the thermostat and piling on the blankets then maybe it’s time to consider an alternative. Addressing the drafty corners that you’ve been so careful to avoid can help keep you and yours warmer when the of single digit temperatures comes rolling in.

Windows

For windows to be fully sealed, they must be closed and in the locked position. Locking your windows isn’t just to keep people from getting into your home. It helps create a weather tight seal and prevent drafts in your home.

A Few of My Favorite Things

If you look closely you will find a lighthouse, a fishing boat, a seagull, the Greasy Pole…..and obviously an inviting fire pit on the gorgeous deck of the Beauport Hotel.  A few of my favorite things.

Sugo vs. Gravy and Cancer Loses

In the third annual Sugo vs Gravy fundraiser, Chef Anthony’s gravy won over the Mayor’s Sugo BUT the real news is that cancer loses out to the massively successful fundraising efforts undertaken at Tonno Wednesday afternoon. The final numbers haven’t been announced as of this writing, but it appears that this third annual event raised somewhere in the vicinity of $45000 – $50000, smashing previous amounts. Great job to everyone involved and special thanks to Warren Waugh for his auctioneering and for his very generous donation. Thanks to the staff for their donation of tips, thanks for all the donations, tremendous kudos Warren Waugh and Lyon-Waugh Auto staff for their support of this event. The Addison Gilbert Hospital presented Chef Anthony and Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken with special certificates  of recognition (well deserved)  for their continued efforts. It was our first time attending, but it will not be our last. I was expecting it to be fun and it was; but it was unexpectedly emotional in a positive way.

Sorry your eyes are closed, but this is a nice shot, so I included it anyhow.

Credit Score and PMI Explained

prattbrandon's avatarCape Ann Home

One of the most important aspect of any person’s financial profile is their credit score.  This is the first thing all creditors look at when making a credit decision for an applicant.  Someone’s credit score will help determine whether they will get a loan or not, and more importantly, what that loan will cost.  The lower the credit score, chances are it will come with a higher interest rate. Conversely, a higher credit score is going to get someone a better and more competitive rate.

This is true when buying a home as well.  Not only will a higher credit score give someone a better interest rate, but if they are putting down less than 20% for a down payment, it will also affect how much they will pay in PMI.  PMI stands for Private Mortgage Insurance.  If a homebuyer wants to buy a house with less than 20% down…

GOOD MORNING! BROUGHT TO YOU BY MISS SNOWY OWL (AND SNOW BUNTINGS, AND TURKEYS, TOO)

A fresh-faced and sleepy-eyed Miss Snowy Owl, a flock of Snow Buntings, and a gang of turkeys made for a beautiful morning

The Snow Buntings were too far away to get a good snapshot, but it is wonderful to see their return to Massachusetts from summer nesting grounds in the high Arctic.

Stirring up the leaf litter with their feet.

A great gang of Wild Turkeys (approximately three dozen!), of mixed age, were foraging amongst the leaf litter, using their big feet to kick up the leaves. The first-hatch year poults stayed more to the center of the flock, while the older hens were foraging at the perimeter.

Exquisite iridescence in Wild Turkey feathers.
