Gloucester Smiles – 1809

My View of Life on the Dock

The email announcing this new addition to the Vineyard Vines catalogue reads, “Fishing for Compliments in Gloucester”….. and, while the cashmere 1/4 zip sure is nice, you had better hook up to more than a couple compliments if you want to buy one at the listed price. Still, regardless of the price, it’s kind of cool to have a Gloucester inspired sweater in the mix of Vineyard Vine’s collection.
“Even the most weathered fishermen can appreciate the softer things in life. Enter: our Gloucester Cashmere Quarter-Zip. Named after the famed seaside community of Gloucester, MA, and made from 100% naturally breathable and lightweight cashmere, this sweater is perfect to wear under a jacket for the evening sail or over a button-down for dinner and drinks at the yacht club.”

There is always a story waiting for you when you stop by the Little River Landing. This time it was about the birds, mostly the herons camouflaging waterside. I was very impressed with how well they blended in. The cormorant seemed not to notice as he bathed and the kingfisher turned his back on the heron pair, but noisily.

Dr. V had the chance to visit his godson down in Florida this weekend. He dropped off a couple of Harbor Cove Dental- Reflective Trick or Treat Bags. We have a bunch at the front desk, so stop by and get one.

Purchasing these tickets will benefit both Adventure and the Gloucester Stage. There will be a short gathering in the lobby to meet the playwright before the show. Coinciding with the 2021 Gloucester mayoral race, this tongue-in-cheek portrayal of “Fishtown’s” most unlikely candidate won’t fail to entertain. YEAH, Magnolia is getting a Café called The Happy Humpback Café. The location is on the corner of Hesperus and Lexington Avenue. As soon as I have more details will post.

Drove by Pebble Beach at just the right moment to see this fisherman hook up and then release this nice fish.

We were riding around Essex recently and noticed the old police building is being demolished. This got us wondering about ClamFest status for this year. Although it had been scheduled for Oct 24, it has been cancelled for this year. This is apparently due to difficulties in the restaurant industry making it difficult to hold the chowder competition, which is the featured event for the ClamFest. We are sorry to hear this as it has been a favorite fall event prior to COVID but we will look forward to its return.
In the meantime, here are some pictures of the demolition along with the new station.
