Get There Early- Sure To Be a Packed House At Maritime Gloucester November 14th

UPCOMING PROGRAM AT MARITIME GLOUCESTER

On Wednesday, November 14th at Maritime Gloucester, join sailors Ben Eriksen and Teresa Carey as they describe their unique quest, aboard a British Channel Cutter, to sail north in search of an iceberg. Sailing more than 1600 miles in cramped quarters, they endured sleepless nights, thick fog, rough weather and icy northern waters. What they didn’t anticipate was they would find a piece of the biggest iceberg in the last six decades. One Simple Question has been described as a thrilling adventure, an exploration of the life cycle of ice-bergs and their connection to climate change, and a meditation on the joy of a deliberate life. See a trailer of their adventure at http://simplequestionmovie.com/. The presentation will kick off at 7pm in the Gorton’s Seafoods Gallery at Maritime Gloucester, 23 Harbor Loop. Programs are free of charge so please arrive early as seating is limited. For further information, go to http://maritimegloucester.org/visit/events.php or like us on Facebook. This is the second presentation of Maritime Gloucester’s "Oceans of Discovery" series.

Good music pretty much all day and night for the next two days

It’s a beautiful day to be at Camp Spindrift for their Fall Into Winter Festival and music is still going on — if you hurry, you can catch John Jerome at 2pm (see schedule).

After that you can catch 3 more live shows today and dance into the wee hours.

Get up for brunch tomorrow at Alchemy with Flynn Cohen & Friends.  Then catch the Cape Ann Big Band benefit at Gloucester House — a great way to celebrate Veterans Day — and still have time for two more shows before the night is over!  WOW!

See the complete local live music schedule here.

Klezmer in Gloucester with Attitude this Saturday

Natalia Carollo of Temple Ahavat Achim sent this info on a performance by Klezwoods with Fozzie Hill at Cafe Shalom this Saturday Nov 10th at 7pm.  Refreshments will be served.  Suggested donation – $10/per person.  Check them out!

Klezwoods is a Boston-based amalgam of strings, horns, and percussion that melds the spirit of traditional klezmer and balkan music with modern grooves, improvisation and east coast attitude.

Every player comes from a different background, which creates the band’s unique sound and style. They originally got their start some years back when local Cambridge, MA haunt, Atwood’s Tavern, asked soon-to-be-bandleader Joseph Kessler to put together a group of klezmer musicians during Christmas time for a “klezmer Christmas” event. Thus, Klezwoods was born, and continues to captivate audiences all over the world.

But don’t wait for Saturday.  Weather is clearing already making a great night to go out.

Part III Superstorm Sandy Trilogy

Superstorm Sandy Gloucester ~ The Morning After

Filmed on October 30, 2012, the morning after Superstorm Sandy, at Brace Cove, Gloucester. We were very fortunate to miss the brunt of the storm; Gloucester survived with relatively minimal damage. A heavy, thick steely-gray bank of clouds dominated the sky and the sun broke through for only a brief period. The streaming shafts of sunlight created a beautiful ethereal glow filtering through the atmosphere. The wind was very strong and caused a good deal of camera shake.

Music composed by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Opus 46: Morning Mood.

You want REAL tickets? OK, we heard you. Get them at Gloucester Music and Liquor Locker

Sample Ticket

For our first 2012/13 Berklee in Gloucester show, we didn’t have real tickets — you know the paper kind you buy at box offices and stores.  And people asked why?

Some of you just prefer to buy a real ticket.  You don’t want to go on-line or call and have your credit card charged.  And you don’t want to have your name on a list at the show.  Nope.  You want to walk in, show your ticket and take your seat.  Plain and simple.

Most importantly, you want to save your ticket as a memento.  I’ve got my share of concert and show tickets stashed somewhere.  I figure that when I get old, I’ll sit in my chair by the fire with my glasses on thumbing through these old tickets, reminiscing about this concert and that play — remembering whom I went with; what my life was like back then; how the music sounded.  Ahhh … the good-ol-days — today’s music is crap — that sort of thing.

OK, we got it.  So we printed up some snazzy tickets for this next show: Indie Rock Night featuring Boston’s The Shills with local favorites Renee & Joe at Latitude 43 on November 29 and you can get these tickets in Gloucester at The Liquor Locker @ 287 Main St. and Gloucester Music @ 210 Main Street.

These are nice, big, full color tickets with a photo of The Shills and that wicked-cool drawing of Renee & Joe.  You’ll be proud to add this one to your collection.  So hurry out and get yours soon before they’re all gone.  Or if you just want to order on-line click here.  Which ever way you buy them,  a portion of proceeds benefits the Berklee2Gloucester Scholarship fund — and remember: this is an ALL AGES show and it will ROCK!  Here’s a taste of what you can expect.

Video- Talking Kickstarter With Writer Joel Brown

Joel Brown discusses his experience fundsourcing his book through Kickstarter.  It’s an interesting lesson on how Kickstarter works and the experience Joel had going through the Kickstarter process.

Without Kickstarter and programs like it Joel Brown’s Essex Coastal Byway Guide maybe never gets published, Our EJ LeFavour’s Pussycat Book doesn’t get published and The C. B. Fisk Opus Documentary maybe doesn’t get made the way they would have liked.

Understand more about the process by watching the video with writer Joel Brown here-

Last minute chance to be in a TV audience on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes & Megan Burtt Today at 1pm

BREAKING NEWS ~ ONLY ON GMG:
Colorado Singer/songwriter Megan Burtt will be taping a show today at Cape Ann TV that will air on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes sometime this month.  Megan is visiting her friend, and Berklee classmate, Chelsea Berry for a few days as part of her Northeast tour.  After her excellent show on Saturday at Old Sloop, I asked Megan if she’d be in the area long enough to tape a show and she agreed!  So we scrambled our crew.

If you’d like to be in the audience, come to the Cape Ann TV Studio in Blackburn Park (directions here) at 1pm.  Ring the doorbell and say, I’m here for Local Music Seen.  Don’t worry about what you look like, you won’t be on camera.  Your presence allows the performers to connect with a live audience, which gives the show an added dimension.  And your clapping, cheering, whistling, etc. will be captured on the soundtrack.

If that’s not enough, you’ll also get to hear a brand-new song from Allen Estes that I haven’t even heard yet (we missed his show at Rhumbline on Sunday because we can’t be in two places at once).  Here’s a taste of what you can expect from Megan:

And don’t forget to vote (if you’re not sure why, check this out).  Might as well stop by your polling place on the way to Blackburn
